Description
Experience Level: Expert
Product: Liquid coating technology. The product is a new, innovative breathable waterproofing gel which offers long-term elastic protection for buildings and constructions. It extends the use-time of the underlying material by several decades. The product is waterborne, solvent-free, and a single-component (ie: it does not need to be mixed before being used). It can be applied easily by hand on most materials, both dry and moist. Alternatively, it can be applied very efficiently on larger surfaces by spraying. It has good universal adhesion on most building materials, which makes it particularly suitable for sealing ducts and joints.
The most common use for the product is in repair construction. This include coating roofs and basements, as well as sealing up ducts and joints. A major part of the current use is outdoor repair work.
The product has been tested by various European research centres. The main attributes are closely linked to the global trends towards 1) more ecological and safe-to-use building materials instead of toxic chemicals and 2) easy-to-use solutions that do not require special equipment, protective gear, nor extensive training.
Target sales channels: 1) B2B – SME roof repairers or general builders. 2) B2B – Builders merchants 3) B2C via national or regional DIY chains, either direct or (in the case of independent DIY merchants) via distributors
Research brief:
The report will be used as one element of a process to define a product launch strategy in the UK. The tone of the report should be business like, factual and authoritative. It must be written in clear, concise English and submitted in word format complete with any illustrations or diagrams where relevant.
What does the UK market structure look like, and who are the main players in the sales of construction material to
1) SME building companies/contractors
2) DIY outlets
a. Main DIY retailers (B&Q, The Range, Homebase, Wickes, Screwfix, toolstation)
Are the main players (competitors) the same or different for the two market segments? - Which competitive liquid coating products are present in the market and what is their price level? How do the competitive products and their prices differ between the professional market and the DIY market?
What is the regulatory environment for coating products and particularly for outdoor DIY coating products? What UK requirements are there beside EU regulations?
Who is typically responsible for the marketing and promotion of competitive liquid coating products in the target market? Are there growth-seeking distribution and sales companies that are importing and marketing such construction materials to the target market? If so who are they?
Which local manufacturers of coating products are there in the UK? What focus, or specialty areas do they have?
What is the current status and development trend of online sales in construction materials?
The report should be indexed and end with a bibliography referencing source material
Your proposal should illustrate:
• The methodology you will adopt to produce the report
• Where and why you will mine the report content, if you will refer to trade associations or publications please provide an example (for instance www.bheta.co.uk)
• How you propose to set the report out (headings & sub-headings)
• Your past experience (attach your CV and at least 1 example of a previous assignment)
• Timetable for delivery from award of assignment
• Milestones along the way
Project award will follow a process of shortlist and further exchanges once we have reviewed proposals
