General information for the business: Running a sports competition
Industry: Sports and Fitness
Description of excel work: I want to use excel to run a sports competition. Teams will be coming to the competition from different regions. I want an excel macro to sort those teams into groups of four so where possible there are not two teams from the same region in a group. The data will be in four columns. Column 1- team name, Column 2 Region, Column 3 player 1, Column 4 Player 2
This will put the teams into a league format where the four teams will play each other. For example team A will play B then C then D. Team B will play A then D then C. Team C will play D then A then B
Finally I want to be able to print out a score card from this data showing the league program for the four teams on one sheet of A4 paper to use as a score sheet for each team
Note: If we have a number entrants that cannot easily be divided by four then there must be groups of six where again people play only three matches within the group. For example;
A will play B then C then D
B will play A then E then F
C will play D then A then E
D will play C then F then A
E will play F then B then C
F will play E then D then B
Extra notes: There might be six regions represented and I will not know how many people are going to enter until they arrive. I will be typing out their details as they arrive, and they will arrive in order. All I want to do is press a button and have the macro group the teams as best as possible. If there are more teams from one region than another it might be impossible but I hope it will accommodate that.
When printing out the league formats I would like them to look something like the attachment below.
Oh yes, I am using Excel for mac 2011 if that makes a difference.
