We have an entrepreneurial client who needs a business plan but doesn't have enough time to build one from scratch. Therefore they require a business professional to undertake a fact-find and use this and other supporting documents to create an internal business plan and marketing plan with key milestones and strategies to accomplish them.
The client is proficient and knowledgeable on how to accomplish most all of the goals, however a structure that others can submit to is necessary for the growth and next level. You should be confident enough to challenge the assumptions presented by the client in order to stretch their thinking and get the best approach and lowered risk in the SWOT. You should be a great communicator willing to offer constructive feedback without being combative.
This innovative consulting business has four main services and extensive distribution and marketing tools at its disposal (including book publishing, online marketing and webisodes). All avenues will need to be worked into the marketing plan. The marketing plan will likely need to end up being about 15-30 pages.
There will need to be a 'phases' approach in several of the new services. This should be reflected in the plans.
Ideally revisions will happen simultaneously as you are working on the plans. But the initial main skeleton structure should be put together after the initial fact find. Everything can be built around that. So you have to be a really great communicator to listen, understand, implement and also keep in contact.
You'll need to help setting marketing, sales and growth milestones in order to reach the goals the owners have. You'll possess executive level business experience already so are bringing experience as well as ideas and best practice to this job.
You'll also be excellent at producing financial projections, and will present 2 sets of three-year financials for 'better than conservative' and conservative. In addition you will be able to show areas where growth will take place, when additional staff will be needed, and more revenue injections required.
You should ideally have knowledge of international business and worked on plans with 7-8 figure turnovers and high 6-7 figure profit margins.
There may be areas that you need to research to do the plan. We have a few junior researchers who can help with basic research work. Anything more senior needs to be done by you.
You will be in daily communication with the client to work the ideas and models you create with them. All calls can be recorded to enable easy review for you during fact finds. You will need to be able to take in a lot of information and compartmentalise so that you can put it into the business and marketing plans.
The main final plan will leave wriggle room for changes in approach, and should be under 25 pages and will be easily understandable for employees to know what they are trying to accomplish.
Notes FYI: The business is in the consulting, publishing and web-media sectors. The management are very experienced and the company has been trading for over 8 years. The company is changing the target audience actively now.
Some experience of serving/marketing to or with affluent/high net-worth individuals would be a benefit.
