Description

Experience Level: Expert
I am looking for a VERY INEXPENSIVE (by western standards) and possibly Asia-based designer/illustrator/website developer (or someone in the UK interested in cross promoting their talents for the publicity I\'m currently starting to generate) to develop a comprehensive and integrated website with several pages incl. e-commerce/merchandise for a record label called Orderly Bazaar Records & Publishing...a label which is specialized in \'roots, rock, ethnic, jazz, fusion and other travel-related shenanigans\'. This is likely to be in Wordpress. At the end of it, I will be in the position to update all my own content, myself.

IMPORTANT NOTE: I am an unemployed artist with strictly limited funds/savings at present, so I am looking for a very LOW BUDGET BID, I realize, for a fair bit of work. In essence, I\'m looking for a designer willing to \'sponsor\' this effort for the publicity that my work is generating (while based in England, I am gaining a critical mass in publicity at present, slowly, and have a management deal in India with Bajaj Int\'l that is still not producing any results, but they are part of my efforts; I also have founded a group for songwriters on Facebook that is virally exploding, and so ... there is potential to get work from the thousands who signed up with me who may need web development assistance later...if they like what they see me doing. I am also chairing a panel at a world music conference called Womex akin to Womad in Copenhagen, Denmark in the fall, and will be representing the site and any peers/sponsors to that audience, etc. etc. etc. Tracy Chapman\'s producer has endorsed the new album. All the reviews are fantastic. I just need a whole site overhaul to take things forward, and you can be part of that publicity machine through the exposure to your design services as a contractor and sponsor). Of course am willing to pay something. But the budget must be very, very tight on this project. I need to be clear about that.

The website development will involve three brands: artist, new album (recorded in Bollywood, Canada and Saudi Arabia and now released in the UK and Canada), and record and multi-media publishing company (travel literature/e-zine/video).

My main concerns at present are:

- the usual elements found in a musician\'s website
- incl. e-commerce/merchandise store - I have a t-shirt design, but want to expand this to include more products, both music related and travel related
- a fundraising webpage akin to Jill Sobule\'s: http://www.jillsnextrecord.com
- a newsletter template and database management system to deal with the thousands on my mailing list...it\'s all starting to get out of control
- an arty cross-cultural e-zine for music lovers and world travellers
- a page within the site that showcases the albums and work of other affiliated artists I may be promoting for sales or licensing to tv and film

Regarding OTHER regular design, I am looking for more t-shirt designs, more travel-related merchandise, and will need some limited publicity tools like a postcard and probably a flyer and new business card as well as stickers, etc. This is a secondary focus. But this could be an income generator for YOU, if you\'d care to work out a deal re. cross promoting your art if it suits Orderly Bazaar.

Reading the above, it sounds like a lot, but I will be mapping out the website over the coming days and know that in many cases this is just a case of starting with a simple design, adding the correct widgets etc. and ensuring that things flow. I will be utilizing a combination of SCRIBBLY, MESSY ILLUSTRATION with travel photography to create a hip, exciting effect for the viewer/visitor. So, if you can illustrate this will be helpful. (ie. look at the scribbly effect on this: http://www.therealjeremyfisher.com/index.html#discography

I am looking for someone who will optimize the sites as well, if possible, but that is not a requirement here.

Again, I am willing to pay, but the rates need to be extremely reasonable and the understanding is that this is as much a publicity vehicle for your services and talents as it is a \'job\'. If you\'re cut and dried and inflexible about your work, this isn\'t the job for you.

If you think this would be a worthwhile project for you to be involved with for your portfolio, for publicity, for mutual cross promotion, I welcome your queries and a bid.

Thanks and fingers crossed...

PS. Sites I like a lot for either the CONTENT in them or look:

Terrible design, but exceptional content:

Interesting combination of ideas re. travel, not perfect, but interesting...in development:
http://www.jillsobule.com

Great site for a record label, incorporating several other artists, and GREAT USE OF COLOR, WHICH CONVEYS WORLD MUSIC/VARIETY, etc:

Photography site idea for the sale of prints:

and showcase of them in a blog:

I am friends with the above photographers and really love a lot of what they do...good strategies there.

Overwhelmed? Don\'t be. I throw a lot of info at you. You sort me out. It\'s all good!
