Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
Information for the business: solid and surface 3D CAD modelling
Industry: Education
Design details: Hi, I need help asap with my fushion 360 assignment to make USB modelling. This task is possible to do in Fusion 360
Ideas for the visual style: fushion 360
Urls to draw inspiration from: https://www.kitronik.co.uk/4155-8gb-memory-stick-uncased.html
Extra notes: Assignment 1: USB memory stick casing
Additive manufacturing systems are fundamentally changing the way products can be manufactured, allowing small batch sizes to be manufactured cost effectively. They also offer the designer far more geometrical freedom, because he/she is not constrained by the limitations of traditional manufacturing processes. In this assignment you will model the external casing for a USB memory stick, and manufacture it using the rapid prototyping technology at LSBU.
This is primarily a styling assignment, in which you are expected to iterate widely using sketches and foam models before committing them to CAD. We do not want to see simple oblongs with flat surfaces! That said, after the foam modelling stage you will only have a few weeks to model your surfaces in fusion 360, so do not make the form overly complex. Simple forms can still be curvaceous and beautiful. The purpose of the project is to learn to output a well stitched surface model for manufacture by 3D printing. You are expected to reverse engineer the memory stick (which I will supply) to create a cavity in your model, into which it will fit. After you create the CAD model, you will export it as an .STL file, and get it 3D printed using the LSBU procedures, which will be covered in class. You should aim to get it printed at least two weeks before the deadline, in order to give you time to sand / spray, and finish it.
Learning Outcomes:
LO1. Be aware of the capabilities and limitations of RP/RM technologies
LO2. Apply skills in 3D form creation to explore and develop design concepts
LO3. Understand and use CAD systems effectively as a tool in the design of complex 3D objects
LO4. Use both solid and surface 3D CAD modelling packages to produce assemblies, renderings, animations, and digitally manufactured prototypes from digital 3D models
https://www.kitronik.co.uk/4155-8gb-memory-stick-uncased.html
Dimensions:
Total Length: 60.3mm.
Total Width: 13.5mm
Total height: 4.8mm
Input Length: 14.8mm.
Input Width: 12.2mm.
Deliverables
o 2 A3 portfolio boards showing your iterative design process, collated sketches and photos of foam models, and how you have translated these into a digital form.
o A physical 3d printed model, finished to a gloss surface in white primer.
Assessment Criteria
1. Evidence of a range of design iterations
2. An innovative and attractive form
3. Quality of the finish on the 3d printed model.
