The Position
The position is only open to someone who has suffered depression or who has experienced a close family member/friend who has suffered depression.
The job is to assist a lawyer who is currently very ill with chronic depression. He needs general administrative support in his private and personal business affairs, however, in the context of his depression. This may mean that on some days he may find it difficult to give instructions/discuss issues, and the candidate will be expected to be understanding of that and also capable of acting on his/her own initiative.
A key part of the role will be to assist the client in his recovery activities and to liaise with his medical team.
It is very much an active position.
There may be some need for face to face meetings in SE1 (travel expenses will be paid). However, the majority of work will be conducted via phone or on-line.
Weekly hours will vary and the timing needs to be flexible. Some support may be required at weekends. Initially the assistance would be for a minimum of 3 hours per week, although more may be needed depending on activities/requirements.
Key tasks/Responsibilities
Organising/Managing the client’s business and personal diary.
Dealing with admin activities and correspondence.
Assisting with personal/domestic affairs.
Dealing with some financial activities, payment of bills.
Liaising with close friends and relatives.
Assisting with medical treatment/activities
Help planning and supporting the client by phone in organised therapeutic activities including hobbies, physical exercise.
Assisting and supporting the client to overcome problems they might experiencewhilst attempting to participate in activities.
Key Candidate’s Skills
The successful candidate must have:
Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to prioritise, meet deadlines, take initiative and work autonomously.
Friendly, approachable, tolerant, patient, empathetic, trustworthy and hardworking and strong attention to detail.
Tolerance and understanding of people with mental health issues, the ability to manage and understand emotions and behaviour.
Sensitivity to and respect for the utmost confidentiality of this work.
