Im in the process of creating a small bedroom / office in my loft space as part of a renovation project. Building Control have approved my plans (sketches) with a condition that calculations are provided for a large wood beam that spans the house and that I intend to land one end of the new floor joists on. Im proposing that I provide some vertical support of the wood beam via a prop near the mid-point, which itself is support from beneath by sistered joists approx 100-150mm from a load bearing wall. I would be extremely gratewful if you could undertake the required calculation to meet BC requirements for the attached proposal or offer an alternative solution so the large wood beam can be used for landing the new floor joists.
Many thanks
