Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
Over the years I have wondered about the so-called Best Days in the lunar cycle, and how to accomplish them in animal husbandry.
Howdy, I’m seeking a table of generated dates that can indicate the ideal dates for two points in time: a Date to breed cattle, best is on the Full Moon or within several days of it when the moon is in Taurus; and, a date of gestation delivery date to be predicted on the basis of the breeds gestation period. For discussion sake 272.8 days.
Consider:
Day to breed: “The best lunar days are the 1st day after Full Moon and the 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 10th, 11th and 13th days of the bright half ... Best signs are Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius, but acceptable are Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces ”
Gestation Period: “For a long period cattle breeders have considered the average gestation period of all breeds of cattle to be in the neighborhood of 283 days. Lush (1937) made a study of 27,810 gestation's and found the average to be 282.1 days, which is close to the generally accepted average. Rife, et al. (1943) report a marked difference in the gestation periods of Hereford and Aberdeen-Angus cows maintained in the Ohio Experiment Station herds. The gestation periods of the same cows when cross-bred were approximately half way between. The Hereford cows when mated to a Hereford bull had an average gestation period of 289.0 days; the Aberdeen-Angus cows when mated to Aberdeen-Angus bulls had an average of 272.8 days; and when cross-breeding was practiced in both the Hereford and Aberdeen-Angus cows had an average of 281.4 days”
Day to Calve / deliver: Animals should be breed so that they deliver when the moon is increasing in Taurus, Cancer, Pieces, or Libra. I would prefer Libra.
If you can supply me with some direction on this I will be most grateful. I look forward to hearing back.

Hello Karl,
I can't say that I've ever heard of Excel being used in this way. That makes this project a little interesting. It would not be a complicated project as the features you would need are relatively simple. Do you have easy access to the information on the cycle of the moon, can a formula be created to generate this cycle?
I'd be interested to help you with this.
Regards
Tony HKarl F.21 Sep 2017Well, I have my feeble Excell Spreadsheet attempts that I could send if I knew how this system worked. I recon I can figure it out. But if you could sent me a post falster@falsterfarm.com, I could attach it to my reply?
