Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
My customer sells PDF e-books and they need to streamline their sales process by automating as much of it as possible via their Joomla web site.
The solution you are bidding for will enable them to upload master copies of their PDF e-books and take payments for them online. The system will customise each PDF and make them available for immediate download, and keep accurate records of payments and downloads.
If an off-the-shelf Joomla add-in can provide some of this functionality with modification and it makes sense to use it then I have no issue with that but you must be open about it.
====================== THE TASK ========================
Users become eligible to buy and download the e-books by creating their own Joomla accounts in the usual way.
Your role would be to add the following functionality to the Joomla system:
1. E-BOOK MANAGEMENT BY ADMINISTRATORS: They will need to be able to upload a master copy of each e-book and enter some information about them, for example: price, description, screenshots, active or not, date of publication, etc. (i.e. basic product information). So some form of simple upload & database interface for this will be needed.
2. TRANSACTION PROCESSING: Allow an authenticated Joomla user to purchase one or more of the e-books. The transaction must use real-time credit card processing probably via PayPal and possibly other CC gateways (to be discussed). Rejected payments or problems with the payment gateway must be reported to the user elegantly, i.e. this must be a thorough and professional job with good error handling.
3. ELECTRONIC DELIVERY OF GOODS: Once a user has paid for a given e-book, the system must:
(i) Make a customised copy of the e-book they have just bought, by: (a) inserting the person\'s name in the header or footer of every page of the e-book; (b) encrypting the e-book (assuming this is possible with PDF) with a randomly-generated strong password.
(ii) Make the file available for download to them at their leisure, either for a given period, or a given number of successful downloads (if this is technically feasible), or for ever (these options to be discussed).
(iii) Make the PDF password available to them by email.
4. AUDIT TRAIL AND RECORDS: Site admins need to be able to log in to the site and see who has paid for what, when and for how much, and the date and time of every download of everyone\'s files, and probably a few other bits of info.
=========================================================
At present my customer is developing the next versions of his PDFs. He anticipates wanting to commission this work by the end of April 2010, for delivery around the end of May 2010, however these timescales, as timescales are wont, may slip.
If you decide to bid for this work please give me detailed information about your programming skills and point me to examples of your work, explaining exactly what you did for each site (not just a URL). I will also require references from existing customers before accepting any bid.
Feel free to quote a range of prices and explain the variance.
Thank you in advance for your time and effort.
