Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
We design and make acrylic cake toppers, which are cut out of sheets of 600mm x 400mm acrylic.
We produce our designs for cutting in Adobe Illustrator. On a sheet of 600mm x 400mm acrylic we can normally arrange between 12 - 16 different cake toppers for cutting.
We import each illustrator file into our 600mm x 400mm workspace, and manually arrange each topper to maximise the number of toppers that fit in that space. We turn the toppers around 360 degrees to fit as best as possible, maximising space covered and reducing wasted space. This is a very time consuming and non efficient task
We require a solution that will quickly and efficiently enable us to "nest" multiple files together into a 600mm x 400mm space - maximising the items per sheet that we can fit ready for cutting.
We require a solution that has a 600mm x 400mm workspace, the ability to import multiple files (i.e. 10 files at once, selected from a folder) and then automatically arrange the files into the workspace to fit as best as possible (with a minimum space of 3mm between any near parts of each design)
I have attached an example of some cake toppers we have manually arranged into a workspace - each file was opened and then arranged to fit as best as possible.
This would need to be a Windows 7 64 Bit Program - or possibly a Web Driven Application / Tool - depending on which is best for this tool.
