You don't necessarily need a lawyer to instigated a court case, in the UK we have something called money claim online (which is used for small claims upto 10k)
Can you tell me more about your situation, as there are particular steps that need to be taken before you even consider a "money claim", failure to follow rules means your case would be dismissed or set aside.

Tony HDi P.23 May 2017Hi Tony,
My case was in regards to transfer my items from London to South of Spain. I found them via www.uship.com website. This is how it works in this site : I submitted the job, i.e.how many boxes, where I would like the transfer to and when. I received an offer from the transport company and decided to go ahead with them. In their description they seem legit, they offered insurance on the items, and they had positive reviews from other clients too.
The items never arrived in Spain and the company was not available for comment when I inquired. I found their profiles on facebook and they were aggressive against me, not providing any further details. The police did nothing. When they contacted the company the owner said he gave my items to another driver to send it to Spain. When the police asked the details of the other driver and the company it was not possible to get an answer. In the meantime many of my items appeared on Ebay. I reported that to the police, they talked to the seller and the seller simply said she bought them in a car boot.
The police although clearly that seem to be a cyber crime they decided that this is breach of contract and the court should decide about this.
That's the most important aspects of the story.
Best,
