Experience Level: Intermediate
Integrate ES HyperNEAT Neuroevolutionary framework (available in Java, C++, C #, and maybe python?) with Mario AI Benchmark to allow the evolution of a neural network controller for the game. Need to be able to run across multiple CPU/GPU cores for fast machine learning. Source code is available for both HyperNEAT and Mario AI. Need an easy interface to make experimental evolutionary runs. Also need a way to visualize the networks that are evolved. Finally need to make project extendable so that other neuroevolutionary approaches can be plugged in at a later date to allow further experimentation.
Developer should have a background in Deep Learning and other machine learning approaches. See attached documents for details on HyperNEAT, the Mario AI Benchmark, and a paper outlining a very similar project.
