Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
General information for the business: healthcare safety app
Kind of development: New program from scratch
Description of requirements/functionality: Tender document for IV local anaesthetic app
I would like to produce an iOS and android app that allows doctors to calculate the dose of the local anaesthetic they can give safely. This must be 64 bit compatible and work in landscape and portrait modes. This will be a free app worldwide. It will only be in English.
A bit of background information.
Local anaesthetics are numbing liquids used by doctors to help ease pain. The dose of local anaesthetic has a defined safe level that should not be exceeded. These max safe doses are described in milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg). So for example, in a 70kg patient, the max safe dose of lignocaine is 3mg/kg I.e. 210mg. To add to the confusion the doses of local anaesthetic are described as percentages. A 0.5% solution has 5mg/ml, a 1% solution has 10mg/ml, a 2% solution has 20mg/ml. As you can see, you multiply the % by 10 to calculate the concentration in milligrams per ml (mg/ml), and therefore the volume of drug to be administered.
So 210mg dose is:
10.5ml of 2% Lidocaine (10.5ml X 20mg/ml = 210mg)
21ml of 1% Lidocaine (21ml X 10mg/ml = 210mg)
42ml of 0.5% Lidocaine (42ml X 5mg/ml + 210mg)
On the home screen I would like a logo (to be supplied by us) and then the option to enter the weight. Based on this weight the calculation will be completed.
Weight (Kgs)
Lignocaine - 3mg/kg
Lignocaine with adrenaline - 7mg/kg
Bupivacaine - 2mg/kg
Ropivacaine - 3mg/kg
Ropivacine with adrenaline - 4mg/kg
Prilocaine - 6mg/kg
Prilocaine with adrenaline - 9mg/kg
I would then display the number of mLs of the following agents that can be given of the various strengths
Lignocaine 1%
Lignocaine 2%
Lignocaine 1% with adrenaline
Lignocaine 2% with adrenaline
Lignocaine 4%
Ropivacaine 0.5%
Ropivacaine 0.75%
Prilocaine 0.5%
Under this, I would like the option of “I have given” which would allow the user to enter the above agents in bold and the number of mLs they have used. The default entry for this would be zero so that the max doses above would be available. With this information the app can calculate how much of each agent they could give in addition to any given doses.
For example, in a 100Kg man, I have given 30mls of 2% lignocaine with adrenaline. This is 30 x 10 x 2 = 600mg. The max safe dose is 700mg so the patient has had 6/7th of the max safe dose. In the “I have given” option, it would display 1/7th of the max safe dose for the remaining agents including the agent which has been used. The 1/7th would be displayed as a number of mLs.
We would like to produce this app as soon as possible with assistance with the conception and necessary revisions. We need a price for the iOS app as a standalone and iOS and android app.
