Description
Experience Level: Expert
Kind of design: Custom website
Ideas for the visual style: In keeping with the rest of the site
Website url: www.cad-steel.co.uk
Website information: Informational site - aimed at generating revenue from Adsense
Extra notes: My site www.cad-steel.co.uk contains information useful to construction industry design professionals. The infomation is derived from tables in a British Standard document. What is missing from my site is the tables themselves - an absence I plan to rectify.
Two new menu items will need to be added to my main navigation bar: 'Dimension Tables' and 'Property Tables'. Each of these menu items will contain a list of seventeen elements - which will link to seventeen new pages - in much the same way the menu item 'Steel Sections' currently works. So - there will be a total of 34 new web pages - seventeen new 'Dimension Tables' pages and seventeen new 'Property Tables' pages. I will need to be able to modify the page titles and meta descriptions of these pages - so the custom CMS system will need to be amended to accommodate this.
As some of the table headers contain unusual characters - I suspect the best approach will be to create images which will form the table headers. The designer will then need to create the grid which will contain the content. I am able to produce high quality .pdfs, jpegs or png's of the headers - which the designer will hopefully be able to translate into the format required for the design to work. See attachments for an idea of what the header images look like. It might be possible for the designer to create the header using a different approach - to be discussed! I expect the table will be around 950px wide but this will need to be decided based on how high the content text needs to be to be readable and fit within its respective cell in the content grid.
The next issue will be how to go about populating the tables with figures. I will need to handle the data entry aspect myself but I will need the designer to provide the system to facilitate this. This might involve the creation of a custom script to which I can feed a text file - which subsequently updates the database. Note that the first column of each table will contain the 'Section Reference' text currently used in the 'Steel Section' pages and will link to the corresponding product page.
The work will need to be undertaken 'offline' and uploaded once all tables have been populated. I imagine I might need up to two weeks to complete data entry once a way forward is agreed.
I'm a very reasonable client - if I have got the price totally wrong - I'll be happy to negotiate.
Thank you in advance for your proposals!
