Description
Experience Level: Entry
General information for the business: We provide end client solutions in Aerospace, Oil & Gas, Construction, Process Control & Automation
Description of every module: This is a very simple application (test case). Just a databound checkbox on a VB.NET Windows Form bound to a 'bit' column in a single row SQL Server table.
All of the VS project material, VB.NET source code and the SQL database table creation (TSQL) scripts are here. (This has been tested using a) VS2010 with SQL Server 2008 R2 and also b) VS2017 with SQL Server 2014 but I'm quite sure that all other versions will yield the same results).
Please copy the material to a folder 'C:\bindingTest' and execute the appropriate TSQL script if you want to try things out.
I've Googled everywhere and can't find the answer. I'm not really looking for a 'work-around' (I can do this) ... it's more a question of understanding the cause of the original problem.
The problem is simply that everything works 100% after the first couple of 'clicks' of the checkbox but it doesn't work properly for the first click !.
Excluding diagnostics, there are only 4 lines of code ! The 'BoundTestDataSet', 'ControlSettingsBindingSource' and 'ControlSettingsTableAdapter' have all been automatically generated by Visual Studio as a consequence of selecting the Databindings 'Checked' property for the 'boundCheckBox' control.
You will see the problem if you compile and run the application.
Many thanks
Specific technologies required: VB.NET, SQL SERVER (2008 and above)
OS requirements: Windows
Extra notes: All existing material (the entire VS project and TSQL scripts) will be provided.
