Estimated project duration: Ongoing
General information for the business: We are a paralegal law firm that provide costs drafting and advocacy services to solicitors and general legal services to litigants-in-person and small businesses.
Industry: Legal
Description of legal work: Salary: Depending on Experience – hourly rate or % of fee charged to client (to be discussed)
Location: England and Wales
Description:
We are a paralegal law firm that provide costs drafting and advocacy services to solicitors and general legal services to litigants-in-person and small businesses.
The business is run from home with 2 staff in a family run environment and due to excellent levels of service, we are now rapidly growing with many clients wanting to provide us with more instructions in relation to costs drafting and advocacy.
We also continue to take more work from Litigants-in-Person and SMEs
Whilst the office is run from home, we are not quite in the position to move to an office however we do require assistance in providing costs drafting services. We may also require additional assistance in providing our continuing service to LiPs and SMEs.
Therefore, we are looking for a freelance costs draftsman to draft bills of costs. If required, the draftsman may also be required to negotiate bills, draft Points of Dispute, Replies, Costs Budget, P8 matters and providing ongoing advice to clients.
You will be working from your own premises with your own equipment and software. Matters will be delivered to you either by courier or electronically. Therefore, candidates with their own Data Protection Registration will be preferred (you will likely have access to sensitive personal data). Those with their own PII cover will also have preference.
In addition, candidates with civil litigation background will move to the top of the list as they may also be required to assist with civil work for LiPs and SMEs including drafting LBA/LoCs, Particulars of Claim and other Court documents (mainly Small Claims). You may also be required to enforce damages and costs judgments for solicitors.
Suitability:
Naturally, this will suit those with costs drafting experience who may be looking for a new challenge or wish to work extra hours. If you have civil litigation experience in addition to costs drafting this will greatly assist.
This may be suitable for Paralegals who have completed LPC/BPTC and who may be finding it difficult to obtain a training contract/pupillage however we will accept applications from other lawyers. Fellows of the Institute of Paralegals and those in Tiers 3 and 4 of the Professional Paralegal Register will also be of interest to us.
Contact:
We are White Collar (Legal and Admin) Ltd - this job is posted on our Facebook page but applications with CVs are welcome here too.
Evidence of work may be required and you may be asked to undertake a bill drafting exercise to assess suitability.
