Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
A text book distribution company, has decided to use Amazon as their supplier. The company are also looking at closing down their distribution and payment systems and becoming a specialised store front for Amazon. The company will provide a customised user experience
for users to search for books whilst Amazon will provide the data, payment, and distribution.
The company would like a proof-of-concept implementation of a Flash user interface that allows users to search Amazon for books, view book details, and be able to jump to the Amazon web site for further information and purchasing options.
Project Requirements
Design
The first requirement of the project is design documentation. The design documentation should consist of the following elements:
- User Interface break-down (main scenes, user interface controls, navigation)
- Client-server interaction (web services used, data communicated between client and server)
- Class/code design (class design including property and methods, description of fundamental algorithms such as processing XML)
- A description of interesting features that were added, features that were not completed and limitations of features implemented.
Implementation
A Flash project and functional swf file are required that implement the following features:
- A search box that allows the user to search for books.
- A results area to display search results, each result should display a thumbnail image of the book (if one exists), the book's title, and author.
- The design of the results area is not defined, results can be laid out in a grid, or one result per row, scrolling can be implemented but not required.
- The results area should allow the user to page through the search results also indicating which page they are on and the total number of pages.
- Selecting a result should display a book information screen showing a larger image of the book as well as additional book details such as year of publication, number of pages, publisher, etc.
- The book information screen should also contain a button that allows the user to view Amazon's web page for the book so that they can purchase it.
- The book information screen should also contain a button to get back to the previous search results.
- The company believes that users will only use their Flash user interface if it provides some benefit over using Amazon. The main advantage they see Flash providing is animation. Where possible provide animation for zooming, moving, and changing visibility.
- The information used in the user interface must be gathered by interacting with Amazon web services. REST may be used to make requests, the response format must be XML.
