Experience Level: Intermediate
The website will be a one stop source of information on a specific type of pet. The site is aimed at people who are considering getting one or already have one.
There will be an ecommerce shop with a variety of products for sale and there will also be a number of backend databases including breeds, breeders, vets, retailers and pet naming suggestions.

It is very important that all information on the website can be located easily and therefore a search box must be available on every screen and must search the entire website content (including databases & forum).

The solution must have the capacity to list 1000 items with order / stock management functionality and ebay integration. Ability to categorise items, bundle items, apply discount codes, calculate shipping, produce automated customer comms, accept card and paypal payment. The shop must be fully secure (SSL) and able to securely process payments and hold customer information. Customers must be able to provide ratings and review for each product listed in the shop. They must register and log in to leave a review. (I am open to advice on whether the review should be approved before publishing)

The solution must be able to store information about approx 200 different breeds and enable customers to rate each breed on a number of categories. The database will include a variety of information on each breed under various headings and customers must be able to suggest additional content and photos. (This can be via a simple feedback form / email link advising where the customer clicked through from and enabling them to suggest text or upload photos).

Customers must be able to find the best breed for them based on approx 15 optional criteria / filters. The search must display all breeds that meet their criteria, and it must be possible to cross reference this search with the listed breeders and display only breeds which have breeders listed on the website or within a specified distance.

This can either be one master database with each contact categorised by type or could be three separate databases. Customers must be able to search for the ones closest to them or matching a specific criteria and have their results listed nearest first displayed and displayed on a map. They must be able to contact them via a link on the website and the website must record that contact has been made. Customers must be able to request that their details be added to the database – after an initial period there is likely to be a charge for this service so this functionality should be built but easy to switch on when required. Contacts whose details have been added should be able to amend their own details or remove their own details. A log of any changes made must be recorded.

This is a simple database of names providing suggestions for naming pets. Customers can browse the database or search it based on basic criteria (breed / colour). Customers must also be able to add their suggestions to the database.

One of the key areas of the website is the information area which will provide detailed information on the subject area and answers to frequently asked questions. It must be possible to store this information logically and within set categories and sub categories. The website must be able to link information to products available in the shop. There will also be a number of free factsheets available for download and customers should be able to submit questions if they are not able to find the information they are looking for.

There will be a forum area where customers registered with the website can chat and upload images. This includes a buy and sell section and an area where customers can suggest new product ideas and rate eachothers suggestions.

The website should provide links to Facebook and Twitter groups and also provide the facility ‘Share this’ via social media. I am open to whether customers should be able to log in using their facebook / twitter login but this is not an essential requirement.

Customers must be able to subscribe or unsubscribe to newsletters. This can be integrated with a solution such as Dotmailer or embedded into the website solution.

I would like to regularly conduct surveys with customers, this can either be embedded into the website or via a link to an online survey tool such as survey monkey

There will be a number of additional pages required (shown below) and there must also be the flexibility to add new pages as and when needed, and for these to appear in the menus.
• News page
• Events and Courses linked to a calendar
• Customer feedback / contact forms
• Product Reviews
• Competitions
• Games

Ideally there will be varying levels of access available:
• Administrator to have full access
• Shop Manager to be able to manage eCommerce element
• Registered Customer to submit content and reviews
• Registered Contact (i.e. Breeder / Vet) to amend their own details
• Site Visitor to browse and shop.

Full design and development of the website is required including logo and banners within the website. The logo must also be provided in a JPEG or similar. The site should look clean and modern and must be user friendly and easy to navigate.

All text content will be provided. I am happy to input items for sale directly and input to the databases myself or provide text files with content. The website must be able to be updated and maintained without technical assistance (i.e. simple admin interface / html templates / CMS or similar)

The only images that will be provided will be those of products for sale in the shop. I will require banners / links to be designed for the website including one for each product category, and one for each of the main areas of the website. There is also a requirement for a changing banner promoting various areas of the site which the customer can easily click through to. Ideally this will be built in such a way it can easily be updated with new images as required.

The key to the success of this project is that the website is fully optimised to appear in natural search listings. While I appreciate that this is greatly determined by content, I will require advice on ensuring the content is fully optimised and help getting the site to appear on the first page of Google under a number of defined terms.

Google Analytics or similar must be available to monitor website performance

My preference is that once the site is developed it is moved onto a hosting provider of my choice however I am open to hosting / support proposals (to be quoted separately). The quote for developing the website should include the cost of support until the site is fully functional, signed-off and up and up and running on selected hosting provider platform.

The website is required as soon as possible, I would ideally like to have the shop up and running first, while other areas of the site are being developed.

Bids are being evaluated based on the following:
• Cost
• Portfolio / experience of previous projects
• Demonstration of ability to meet requirements
• Usability of backend solution
• Communication

Please refer to attached sample screens for an indication what I am after. This is for illustration purposes only - I am open to suggestions in regards to design / layout.

Please supply the following:
1. Total cost for design and development of site, initial support and handover
2. Proposed user interface / CMS and scripting language to be used
3. Recommended Hosting Provider & anticipated hosting / support costs
4. Hourly rate for additional support / work
5. Examples of any similar projects undertaken
6. Anticipated Timescales
