Product Management Solution
Introduction
The intention is to prepare product data relating to books for use within Amazon and eBay for sales in their respective marketplaces.
Requirements
Import the product data supplied by a third party into a database solution. Provide a front-end for visualising the data in a convenient way for mass editing. Submit selected products to Amazon and eBay through their API's. Retrieve orders and process the orders for submission to a drop shipper for dispatch. Take payment from customer. Update listings and database listings to reflect order history and stock numbers.
Sequence of Events
- Data retrieved from supplier
- Data imported and processed for database storage
- Product data should be displayed in a grid format for quick editing of all product information
- Multiple products are submitted to Amazon or eBay
- Amazon and eBay accounts are automatically checked periodically for new sales
- Any new order details are retrieved and processed for submission to the drop shippers
- Payment transaction is handled through PayPal on eBay and through Amazons own merchant account
- Product data is updated both in the database and on Amazon/eBay
Main Features
Import of Product Data
My suppliers offer a number of different data feeds as services with applicable fees. For the purpose of this product management solution Bibliographic and Price/Availability data feeds would be utilised with a view to adding different data feeds at a later date. My suppliers offer a stock selection in excess of a million items so the solution will need to be capable of handling large volumes of data.
The Bibliographic feed is updated weekly and the Price/ Availability feed is updated daily. The data would be retrieved as it is updated and the changes are to be merged with existing data held in the solution. Any stock changes can be propagated to Amazon and eBay listings.
Sample datasets can be supplied along with a user guide. In addition there are also scanned data sheets and templates which offer additional
information applicable to the solution. The user guide offers information on
how to submit orders, format email confirmation emails, and retrieve the latest data feeds.
Review Product Data
Once the data feeds have been retrieved the information would be displayed in a grid format allowing quick review of product details. Colour coding can be used to indicate the status of any given item, such as whether it has been listed on Amazon or eBay, if it's a new product from the latest data feed, etc. By providing a grid display for review and editing of products, the hope is to reduce the amount of time required to administer data.
Export Product Data
Once the data has been imported, processed and reviewed it is then ready to be exported to Amazon and eBay for display as product listings on their sites.
There may be issues with the export of large quantities of data to Amazon and eBay. They may impose restrictions on the number of total listings and number of listings posted within a given time frame. Each product will be posted to eBay with all appropriate information required for a listing and will be presented with a 'Buy Now' price. Products won't be auctioned.
The utility will need to look for and match ISBN numbers with items already listed on Amazon and offer to sell the same item in their marketplace. Amazon only require stock information as we will only offer to sell items that Amazon already list and stock themselves.
Process Orders
Purchases made on Amazon and eBay will be retrieved by the solution and the details will need to be available for review and processing. As part of processing an order, it will be useful to display calculated values for Amazon, eBay and PayPal fees.
PayPal integration is required to facilitate payment processing for the orders taken through eBay.
Third-Party Solutions
Initially there will be no integration with third-party solutions, however the software might best be designed with the intention of being able to export the data into a suitable format that can be utilised by other solutions as required.
