I\'m looking for a customised Wordpress site with a clean well-designed theme. I\'m a writer and researcher, so this will be my personal site designed to support my freelance work, with maybe a dozen or so static pages and a blog which will develop over time.
On the theme - it might be you can adapt an existing theme, or maybe design one from scratch. I\'ll supply you with examples of what I like and don\'t like so you can get an idea of where I\'m going with this. I\'ll need design input for a logo, but I have a good idea on how I want that to look.
On the functionality - quite basic; I need to blog, I need to link to a few places where I have affiliations of various types, and I need to provide basic information about myself. I need it integrated with a Twitter account, so my new blog posts become tweets, and my tweets are fed into the site. It would be useful to have an integrated / combined RSS feed of stuff relating to my blog subjects. There\'ll be a blogroll, but not massive. If I need video, my guess is that it gets hosted on Youtube and linked to / embedded. Incidentally, I\'m not keen on Flash because it seems so often to get in the way of the content.
E-commerce aspects - I don\'t need to take money through the site but I do need to capture inquiries. Also, I don\'t need to host files for a portfolio, I\'ll email stuff to people once we\'ve made contact. So the site is basically to be used as background credentials plus hopefully interesting blog content. One day I might want to stick the logo on a t-shirt at Zazzle... but that\'s about it.
On the content - work on the basis that the subject matter for the blog is interactive storytelling, but that\'s not all I do - I have corporate clients who will look at this. My thing is complex subjects and issues put across in a palatable, human, and visual way. The site will be a content hot buffet rather than content finger food, if that makes sense; satisfying in itself, insightful, citing authorities, but accessible for a general reader.
Technical stuff - I want to be able to manage this myself (obviously the content side, but equally I don\'t want to have to come back to you every week for technical tweaks). However, it has to be open to major upgrades if necessary. So if I do decide, for example, to add an invitation-only area to the site, I can come back to you for that (as a separate job, obviously). I\'m expecting traffic to be low - generating massive traffic isn\'t part of the plan and even if it happened would probably be more trouble than it\'s worth for my purposes. I\'d want to be using the site for six to eight weeks before it goes live, so I can develop a series of posts before I actually put anything out there.
If this makes sense to you as a brief, I\'d like your proposals for the best way of achieving this with minimum fuss and a good dollop of focused creativity. Please let me know if there\'s any information you need and I\'ll do my best to provide it.
