General information for the website: Customisation of comments code in discussion website
Kind of development: Customization of existing website
Description of requirements/features: Hi,
I am looking for a piece of customisation of existing code so I can deploy it in a project I am creating. Should be a small-ish job.
I am building a travel-discussion-based website on HTML, PHP and SQL, which will use a comments system. For this I am using Comment Tree from Code Canyon, which I have already purchased and can share with the successful developer. (http://codecanyon.net/item/comment-tree/4779745)
The code is nice and clean and it's easy to set up and add to pages, however, I do need it customised slightly:
1. Firstly, I need the ordering of the comment threads to change. At the moment, when Comment Tree gets comments from the database and shows them on the page they are all ordered by date of the first comment in the thread. However I need it so that any replies on a thread will move the whole thread to the top of the comments on that page. Another way of saying it is that all threads should be ordered by the date and time of their latest comment.
2. Next, the way the website works is that users search a location via a form on the homepage. This posts the results to a search page which will then look up the latitude and longitude of the location searched and displays information about the place, along with the related comments.
At the moment Comment Tree is set up to show comments for each unique page, but in my website there is not going to be a unique page per search result. Instead there is only the 'results.php' page, and only the related threads should be shown. This means that I need Comment Tree customised to only get and show threads based on the latitude and longitude returned on results.php. In order for this to work I believe it should look at the lat and long of the first comment in the thread.
3. Equally, when a user creates a new comment/thread, the latitude and longitude should also be added to the comments database.
4. The last amend is related to number 2. Actually, it's not just the comments on the matching latitude and longitude that need to be displayed - instead it must also show all threads posted within a distance of X km.
Fortunately, I have found a SQL query that works out distances between two points and returns results within X km, so this can be used here (see the SQL statement in the answer here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/574691/mysql-great-circle-distance-haversine-formula).
I'm not sure what distance I need yet in my project (threads started within 50km? 100km?), so I would like to be able to easily amend X km in the code later (perhaps as a setting in the Comemnt Tree config.php).
Lastly, as Comment Tree is purchased on a license I will only be able to send it to the successful developer, not post it publicly here.
I look forward to getting your quotes.
All the best,
Richard
Extra notes: Please note that as this is a project I am currently developing locally, there is no admin, FTP or other access available. I am only looking for the customised code that I can then use in my build.
UPDATED: Also, some people have asked about setting up Comment Tree for testing locally. It's really easy - it took me about 10 minutes :) . It just needs running a provided SQL query on a database, renaming a config file, adding local database details and then a line of PHP code to put it on the page. The setup documentation is online here: http://demo.summoner.eu/comment-tree/documentation/
