Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
Estimated project duration: 1 - 2 weeks
Information for the business: Fire and Rescue Service (Public Sector)
Design details: We are currently looking at a project aimed at children’s safety presented as an activity/learning, which contains illustrations suitable for the target audience (primary school children).
We have done something similar before over a series of three activity books, where we commissioned an illustrator - these proved very popular. You can see them here:
http://www.leicestershire-fire.gov.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/youth_workbook_1_digital.pdf
http://www.leicestershire-fire.gov.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/workbook-2.pdf
http://www.leicestershire-fire.gov.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/youth_workbook-3.pdf
We are looking at an A5 format booklet, probably with 16 pages, so would need approximately 7 double page illustations and a front cover.
We are looking at safety regarding fire, road and water (probably two/three illustrations for each).
The project group loved the idea of a group of children and also some animal characters. We also have a mascot here called Lester the Lion which we would like to incorporate if possible (although this is NOT essential) and are also launching a new online game called Sparkton which we need to promote somehow – potentially this could stand alone on the back page though.
In terms of content we would provide all of this.
We would ideally like to get the ball rolling on this project early in 2018.
Well, hopefully this gives you a flavour for the project but if you need any more information please ask.
Target audience: Primary school children
Ideas for the visual style: Group of children and some animal characters
Things to avoid: stereotypes
Urls to draw inspiration from: http://www.leicestershire-fire.gov.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/youth_workbook_1_digital.pdf http://www.leicestershire-fire.gov.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/workbook-2.pdf http://www.leicestershire-fire.gov.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/youth_workbook-3.pdf
Where the design will be used: Printed booklet issued to schools across our service area
Extra notes: The project group have seen a small book produced by the Canal and River Trust, which they really like the feel and style of, so this is their starting point for inspiration.
Scans of this booklet are attached
