Description
Experience Level: Expert
Industry: Environment
Topic: Ground Investigation
Tone: Formal/Professional
Outline & Structure: A study has been undertaken to assess flooding issues which have occurred at Client as a result of the increased flooding issues in the area since 2007.
It is our understanding that rises in local surface water and groundwater levels have increased surface water and groundwater flows in the area impacting approximately 110 properties in Higher Blackley (north of Manchester city centre). The surface and groundwater flooding incidents have caused the ingression of water into resident’s houses and/or gardens as well as onto adjacent roads
The properties at risk from flooding in the study area were built in the mid-1930 and it is understood that they have only experienced flooding problems since 2007-2008.
Client undertook a series of surveys subsequent to the flooding events which occurred between 2012/2013 and distributed a questionnaire to 110 houses in the area requesting information on past flooding incidents. 31 No. responses were received. In consultation with Client investigation locations have been targeted to those residential areas identified as being potentially “at risk” and whom are likely to be amenable to intrusive works being conducted.
A review of the baseline conditions has been undertaken and the design and implementation of ground investigations is required in order to define an appropriate conceptual site model and recommend suitable mitigation options.
The scope of services, with regard to ground investigations, is as follows:
• Design of a site investigation including investigation locations and in situ tests in accordance with the ICE UK Specification for Ground Investigation (GI) (2012) (Institution of Civil Engineers, 2012 – UK Specification for Ground Investigation);
• Scheduling of testing and subsequent monitoring, where required;
• Supervise the site investigation on site; and
• Interpretation of the factual findings of the GI.
Extra notes:
Please only appropiate bid manager with track record should supply quote . Please ensure cv is attached and any training certificate and references. Only UK bidder is allowed to supply quote
Therefore, the following specific objectives have been identified for the site investigation:
• Undertake a GI in the key geological, hydrogeological and hydrological areas identified in Phase 1 Desk Study;
• Installation of standpipe piezometers at each location to monitor groundwater response over time, where present;
• Installation of a rain-gauge to monitor the temporal change in rainfall;
• Installation of river/lake stage boards to monitor the River Irk, Top Billy and Bottom Billy lake levels over time; and
• Completion of supplementary geotechnical and hydrogeological tests, where required.
