Hi,
I need very prompt assistance to help identify why this problem is occuring, so it can be corrected as soon as possible! Just so you know a bit more, the site is running on a virtual server that we rent from Memset.com and has been working fine for the last two years and receives regular updates.
Until a few days ago the site was fine. Now the site only opens fine in
Mozilla Firefox, but not is most other browsers. Chromes, IE and Safari
all display the following message when trying open the Home page:
Some files on the server may be missing or incorrect. Clear browser cache
and try again. If the problem persists please contact website author.
Things I have tried include:
1) Clearing the browser cache - makes no difference.
2) Republishing the site - no change.
3) I've exported the site to a local drive and it runs fine from there in all
browsers. So I've deleted the same files and folders from the server and
then used a 3rd party FTP prog (WinSCP) to upload the exported site to the
server. I logged on to the FTP prog at the account level (not root), so in
terms of ownership/permissions I believe all is fine. Still no change, the
Home page only opens successfully in Mozilla.
4) I've run Developer Tools in the Chrome browser but as I'm a Muse user and
more from a design rather than coding background, much of what I see makes
little sense. However, it looked to me that there could be a problem
loading creative cloud webfonts from Typekit. So I've made sure I'm logged
into the account and re-sync'd the fonts. I've double checked to make sure
that the required fonts are available. But still no change.
4) I've resaved the site in Muse and then changed the fonts to standard fonts,
re-uploaded - but still no change.
5) Bit by bit I've deleted the widgets and then the content from the Home page,
uploading each time and testing, until the page was blank.... still no
change!
6) I've contacted Memset.com (our server hosting company) to discuss the issue
with them, and they assure me there have been no changes to our account.
One thing that is strange is that, even after clearing the browser cache in
Chrome, if I search for the site on Google and click through to open some of the
other website pages, they open okay. And sometimes, having done this, the
Home page will then open okay from then on, with no error message. BUT if
one tries to open the Home page first, then all the pages display the error
message thereafter.
If you are available to give immediate help, this would be much appreciated
