Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
Our project is a video game in which the player can freely move around a box.
He needs to collect items on the box wall to increase his score.
His moves and looks within the game are based on the GPS and sensors of the smart phone.
Boxes
They will be 10 different level in the game. In each level the player has to explore a big box which is a kind of futuristic building. Each box is an average 5-storey high and has lots of windows and balconies.
Nb: All boxes will be provided as 3D object in the file format requested by the developer.
Animations
There are guards inside the box. They can collect items before the player. These guards show on window frames and on balconies. They must be animated: guards on windows throw ropes to collect item, guards on balconies walk from one side to another, collecting items on their reach.
Nb: All animated guard models will be provided as 3D object in the file format requested by the developer.
Movements
Item movements:
The items will be still, but animated. It will be small objects with a burning flame and flag animations.
Enemy movements:
There is no AI. Enemies move in loop: one loop for the guards on the windows, one loop for those on the balconies. The loop has to be reversible. Eg: a guard walking on the balcony from the right to the left must be displayed from the left to the right.
During the game, the loops have to be randomly displayed, in order not to get the player used to a special game play.
Player moves and looks:
At the start of a new game, the player position is set by the GPS system of the smart phone. All further player moves will be defined by his movement since the initial GPS-defined position.
The player is originally located 10 meter from the box wall. Walking one meter in real life will make the box move one meter closer. Getting one meter higher in real life (stairs…) will make the player getting one meter higher on the box wall. Therefore, he has to use real life equipment to move in the game in order to reach every part of the box and collect all items.
The player views of the box are defined by the horizontal and vertical sensors of the smart phone.
Game play
Each box has to be cleared of more than 70% of all items originally placed on its wall. To do so, the player has to view items and click on it. He has to be quick, because guards collect items on their sides! When a level is clear, the player is given a code to access directly to the next box. The game ends after the 10th box. The score is calculated by the percentage of collected items and time used to do so. The player can then send his score to the online wall of fame.
Nb: the first set of 10 boxes is seen as a first shot, to test the market.
Screens and interfaces
Welcome: The player is welcomed by a special screen that he can pass by touching the screen.
Instructions: This non animated screen provides the player with basic game instructions.
Nickname: This screen displays a text box in which the player can enter his nickname. The last entered nickname is always showed in the box. A “go” button brings the player to the level choice screen.
Level choice: This screen allows the player to start from the level he wants. It displays all 10 levels. If the player wants to access to an upper level (above level1), he should click on the desired level number. A text box will appear to enter the level access code. If the code is correct the game proceeds to the loading screen.
Loading screen: This screen asks the player to wait while the level is being loaded. This is a common screen for all levels.
Level end: This screen informs the player that the level is completed. This is a common screen for all levels.
Game end: The end of the game is by a special screen.
The required tasks are:
• Assure the project manager of the feasibility of the project on today’s smart phone
• Inform the project manager of the file format needed for 2D and 3D graphics, and on every limitation on 3D graphic on smart phone
• Provide the project manager with a quotation of the followings:
• Creation of an interface consisting of 7 screens.
Nb: Screen’s design will be provided.
• Creation of a display system consisting of 3D boxes and animated characters, based on the horizontal-vertical sensor of the smart phone. Nb: All 3D models are not a required task.
• Creation of a navigation system based on the GPS of the smart phone.
• Creation of a score system based on the number of items collected and on the time needed to do so.
• Creation of an online wall of fame and attached database.
