I love writing and painting a picture with words, and I understand the importance of using the right words and correct grammar, in the same way that a painter uses specific colours and techniques, in order to effectively convey an idea or to emphasise a point.
In the words of Buddha, “Words have the power to both destroy and heal. When words are both true and kind, they can change our world”.
Since graduating from The University of Central Lancashire in 2003 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree with Honours in Linguistics with German, I have carried out various administrative, secretarial and customer service roles, through which I have developed and honed my typing, organisational and interpersonal skills. However, I always dreamed of working for myself and applying my language skills, which include an excellent comprehension of the English language, a competency in German and an overall aptitude for learning languages.
In 2015, I completed a home study course in proofreading with a company called Chapterhouse, through which I learned all the necessary skills and techniques required for professional proofreading and editing.
Since joining People Per Hour in September 2016, I have been able to realise my dream of working for myself and have worked on a variety of different and interesting projects, where I have been able to apply my language skills. Some of the projects I have undertaken to date include proofreading, editing and occasionally paraphrasing dissertations, essays, theses, novels, non-fiction books, blogs, articles, web content and recipes, writing content for webpages and business ventures, transcribing videos and podcasts, as well as carrying out a variety of German to English translation work, including medical reports, testimonials, chapters from art history books and a poem. I love my work and the fact that it is so varied, and I am always seeking new and exciting projects.
I have recently started writing my own blogs on a range of topics, which I plan to publish in the near future, and I also hope to start writing my first novel soon, so please watch this space…
Aside from work, my other interests include photography (having completed a short course in Digital Photography with the Open University in 2010), reading, furniture upcycling, arts and crafts, travelling, listening to music and attending concerts and shows. I also love learning new languages and have recently started teaching myself Chinese.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any documents which require polishing, if you need some unique and professional content writing, or if you have any other linguistic requests, and I will do my best to respond to any queries as soon as possible.
