What you get with this Offer
The individual agreed. Security is complex and the penalties for getting it wrong can be severe, especially if you are dealing with any kind of financial transaction. Even if you are not subject to regulatory requirements, loss of reputation and customer confidence can have significant negative impact, both personally and on your business.
Professional services in security can be expensive; it is not uncommon for security experts to be billed out at $200-$400 USD per hour. I have 20 years of experience in IT, 10+ of those in a variety of security-related domains, including infrastructure, architecture, implementation, and strategy. I have both acted as an individual contributor as well as a manager of IT and IT Security teams. AlthoughI have spent my career in a variety of full-time positions across multiple industries, I am new to the freelance consulting field. As such, I am offering my experience, advice and guidance for a reduced rate of $130/hr USD for a limited time.
Please note: Unless you are an extremely small operation with a very specific ask, I am not offering full implementation services from an IT security perspective. My offering leans more toward the advisory rather than the implementation. As noted above, security is complicated and labor-intensive to do correctly. It often cannot be done completely and correctly by a single individual. I will provide guidance on what needs to be done, how to design or approach the program, and where to look for help. If you have interest in retaining me for implementation services, please get in touch so that we can discuss the scope and details and ensure that your objectives are met.

What the Freelancer needs to start the work
In order to begin, please describe your goals in the engagement, your expected timeframe for initial discussion, and a suitable contact method.
As the majority of my work will be advisory, I am comfortable with fairly high-level statements. Your goals may be technical, organizational, or related to policy and/or procedure. Some examples might be:
- Who to hire for security operations, and how to select staff;
- How to structure security operations functions and organizations;
- How to run multi-region teams or provide follow-the-sun/24x7 coverage;
- Considerations on whether to run security functions in-house rather than outsourced;
- Security vendor evaluation and selection;
- Developing or refining incident response procedures,
- Data protection for client data or other sensitive information,
- Security-related concerns in platform migration; and/or,
- Compliance or regulatory review preparation.
This is just a sample of the types of topics we may discuss; certainly, if you have other concerns of an IT or IT Security related nature, please feel free to get in touch to see whether it would be appropriate for me to offer consultation or advice.
If you represent a company, you must provide assurance that you are authorized to discuss security-related matters of the organization with an outside party. If your organization requires a signed NDA in order to proceed, I am of course happy to do so.
