What you get with this Offer
I have over ten years experience as a Patent Attorney.
I will prepare a full draft application, with claims and drawings, ready for filing at the UK Intellectual Property Office.
You will need to send me a full description of your invention, including drawings (if you think these are necessary). The description should include as much detail as possible about how your invention works - enough to enable a skilled individual to build a working example of the invention.
You should also provide reasons why your invention is an improvement over what is already known or available - i.e. why it is an invention.
You will have the opportunity to review and comment on the draft before it is finalised. The offer includes two rounds of comments and amendment, with additional comment and amendment charged at my hourly rate of £75p/h. Each round of comment and amendment will take an additional 3-4 days.
If you require assistance with completing the relevant forms and filing your application, I can assist with this for an additional fee. As of May 2018, the total for this filing service will be £160, which includes the applicable UKIPO fees.
Once your application is filed, you can discuss your invention publicly and in non-confidential situations. You will need to request a search, and pay the necessary fees, within one year of filing. The next step after this will be to request an examination of the application and to respond to the examination report you will receive around 2-3 months after filing the request. This process can be accelerated if required. I can assist you with preparing your response, and any other matters required, until your patent application is granted.
The price quoted is for reasonably straightforward inventions - e.g. a mechanical device whose operation and design is relatively straightforward. I reserve the right to provide a higher quote if the subject matter is complex, or in an area that requires more careful consideration. For example, the law relating to software and intellectual property is complex and if your invention is in this area I reserve the right to provide a higher quote than that stated.
I can usually provide you with a first draft for review within 3-4 days. However, this is not always the case, and I reserve the right to provide a time estimate that falls outside this window.
