Warrington, GBIt is always hard to tell someone you are disappointed by them or that you are not satisfied with the work they performed. My project was a fixed fee project with clear goal setting which I awarded to Arslan. The job was to check my previous 2 payroll submissions and correct them if it is necessary.
I gave all necessary information to Arslan and he started the work. First he informed me that we need to submit a weekly payroll. After this he did nothing for a few days so I reminded him that this needs to be done quickly as my next pay date is very close. At this point he proposed a new price for my fixed fee project which was more than double of the original price. I agreed the price because I did not have more time to find someone else before my next pay date. He asked me to pay the extra money to his business bank account and sent an invoice to my Gmail. Then he did the submissions and sent me the proof of them when I released the money from the escrow (original price). Then I received an email from HMRC about the change of my personal tax code (I am one of the employees who was on the payrolls). I logged in to see my tax code on HMRC online and found out that Arslan's submissions appeared as a new employment in my tax files. This was the point when I decided not to pay the extra which I agreed earlier and that I will even try to get the money back which I paid via PPH.
I sent him an email in which I explained my disappointment to him because of the big mess he created but he interpreted it only as an excuse for not paying his invoice.
My next task will be to call HMRC on Monday and ask them to disregard everything Arslan has submitted and keep my original submissions. Finally I will be at the same point where I was before he did the submissions. (In the meantime I learned more about payrolls and submissions and found out that there was no problem with my original submissions.)
As far as I understood, he is in the beginning of his career and I truly hope that this feedback will help him to improve his customer relations and business ethics and he will change for the better.
