Calling book-lovers! Help sell books to schools
This is a fixed-term role, I estimate about 20 hours work max. The goal is to get 200 secondary schools to include a new historical novel in their libraries for the new term in September. This is not like typical sales. First of all, this requires drawing up a list of 200 schools that are a good fit, that would see the utility in this kind of book. The next step is to draft an email and send this to the Headteacher, Librarian, or Head of Literature and follow up with a call. You will be required to read the novel and I will supply a free copy of it for you. Storytelling is a significant part of education and part of how young people develop -- connecting with schools and understanding how this book fits in with their needs will be important. It should not be a hard sell, so far, schools have given very positive feedback and been keen to connect. You will need to confirm the names of the schools you communicate with, with the PR for the publishing house for this book and at points you may end up working together. The publishing house works with a non-profit that helps schools broaden the range of its books and offers discounts for bulk buys. Each school should purchase a minimum of 30 copies. 20 for the classroom and 10 for the library (perhaps). Larger schools and Sixth Form Colleges can be expected to purchase more and that can factor into your approach. But I am seeking thoughtful empathetic people who are diligent at their work. It may be sales but it shouldn't be rushed or intrusive or careless. Should the target of 200 secondary schools be met and with a significant majority having purchased (as I said, this is not a hard sale, it's simply one that requires careful planning and subtle engagement) then we can extend the work for another 20 hours, with another 200 secondary schools and a pay rise contingent on the success thus far.
Email harvesting from International Schools
I am looking for someone who is willing to harvest the email address from international schools that have a Yr12/13 (age 16-18). The website to gather the information is https://www.international-schools-database.com/ and I would require the contact name and email of the person in the school who holds the job title of Head of Sixth Form, Head Teacher, Careers Adviser (or similar), Librarian. Only after checking each school would a generic email be accepted (I would check a sample of the generic emails to see if I could find a name). Areas to cover would be South East Asia and Middle East. The website has a sort function to narrow this down - it would then be required to visit the school website to search for the contact. Details to be presented in an Excel spreadsheet with Contact name, job title, email, school name, city, country It is not very interesting but fairly easy!
Librarian Ninjas
I need some vector drawings of cartoon ninjas doing librarian tasks. Something along the lines of what I have attached, but wielding books, laptops, rappelling down stacks, etc. Could we start with a couple and see if we hit upon a style I like and then draw more as needed? Thanks, -- Cliff www.widernet.org
