Description
Experience Level: Entry
Kind of writing: Technology
Num. of articles: 60+
Words per article: 250
Industry: Technology
Topic: Enterprise server hardware and workstations
Tone: Informal/Casual
Outline & Structure: I am technical writer for a UK supplier of refurbished hardware mainly rack mount servers and workstations - high end not retail PCs. We are launching a new E commerce site and I am up against a deadline. The job is 75% done, I just need some extra help.
You will be writing 2-300 word descriptions to an agreed content and style - my style! The finished articles have to be as if I wrote them. You will be provided with many examples that I have already written - they all have to be roughly the same format, and I will provide guidelines. The finished pieces have to be SEO unique and pass a plagiarism test.
A typical piece would be for a 3 year old Dell server. You would research its basic spec, and build a piece around it. The piece will be the product description for that server on the relevant page of the site. The next piece would be for a very similar Dell server but of a different spec. You can clone one piece of another, but subtle changes must be made to keep each one fresh and just a little bit unique. You will see how I have done it because you will be given all the pieces I have already written, all you have to do is imitate.
The first few pieces will take longer, but as you get into it they will be quicker and quicker. Cut n Paste is acceptable, with minor changes. I use descriptions and sentences from the OEM pages and magazine reviews, and then change the words around so that a new unique sentence conveys the same info - and is SEO friendly.
I will hold your hand while you get up to speed.
You MUST have some experience of computer hardware - preferably enterprise level - rack servers etc. You must know the jargon - it's all about CPUs, DRAM, Intel and AMD processors, SATA and SAS and raid arrays. Do not apply unless you absolutely know your GB from your MB and how much cache you need! You don't need to know this by heart - you just need to be able to recognise the specs online and know what they mean, and incorporate them. There are many similar descriptions out there on the net - the info is easily available - the trick is to re-work them into unique pieces. Our competitors just cut n paste from the manufacturers websites, which is not SEO friendly. Our own unique pieces are already getting us on page 1 of Google.
Most of the equipment is several years old, so you have to look back in time ...
I will do the final edit on everything - communication will be frequent via chat or skype plus phone if needed.
For reasons of time zone, I prefer to deal within UK/Europe.
Extensive research needed: yes
Extra notes: Here is a typical example
T3 HP ProLiant DL380 G7
A refurbished HP Proliant DL380 G7 from xyz provides an excellent foundation for heavy data-centre and cloud based applications. G7 servers from HP sport greener power consumption credentials than previous models and also benefit from a major upgrade to HP’s superb Integrated Lights Out server management suite - ILO3. You will not find a better specced or cheaper 2U enterprise server at this level.
The DL380 G7 features an Intel 5520 chipset on a two-way Intel Xeon motherboard, supporting Xeon 5500/5600 series processors with up to six-cores per CPU and up to 12MB level 3 cache for higher performance and better power efficiency. Memory capacity is huge, with 18 DDR3 RDIMM slots supporting a maximum of 384GB with both processors installed. This provides ample scope for the most intense multi-tasking requirements and demanding applications.
On the storage front the DL380 G7 delivers with a revolutionary expandable backplane allowing 8 additional 2.5” drive bays on top of the 8 standard slots for a total up to 16 small form factor SAS/SATA hard drives controlled by the Smart Array P410i RAID controller. Redundant fans, hot swap power supplies and other components are integrated throughout the tool-free chassis, allowing for rapid maintenance and upgrades in mission critical environments.
At xyz we understand that complex business requirements vary from one customer to the next, that’s why we allow you to build your own refurbished HP DL380 G7 to meet your specific performance or budget preferences. Use our Configure-To-Order hardware options to select your desired configuration or alternatively select from one of our special preconfigured deals when available.
