Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
Proofreader required. This a regular, monthly contract for a Motoring Club Magazine. The magazine is between 30,000 and 40,000 words. At present we have a proofreader who does this for a monthly charge of £90.
What happens is the Editor (who works for the Motoring Club) submits word docs that need to be checked. We need somebody who can check for any real clangers and consistency (there are ways to format prices, dates, etc). There is a stylesheet that is not overly complicated. You'renNot checking for content – that's down to the Editor. There is some technical car jargon so an interest in cars would help, but by no means essential, it's the English we are interested in getting corrected.
We are the design house and we usually send over the word docs to the proofreader by email. She then amends them and sends them back. We would expect a 24 hour turnaround, but quicker if possible. The work happens at set times in the month so we all know it's coming. We usually do everything by email so actually rarely speak!
If you are interested I can then send over a pdf of the magazine so you can see what is involved. Remember it's for a regular monthly magazine.
Accuracy is very important as after your proof read the job goes to press an the next time it is read it is in the 10,000 magazines printed! No clangers to slip through.
