Description
Experience Level: Entry
For this project, I am looking for an expert proof-reader to proofread my book of 45,700 words.
I am looking for errors to be highlighted and alternative suggestions to be included, as appropriate.
The book is made up of five short stories from the perspective of five intertwining characters. They are light-hearted stories with a very slight surreal touch.
I can email the work to you in either a word document or pdf or peer to peer form whichever suits.
The book is set to be formatted as an e-book once everything has been completed.
The project needs to be completed within a month or less.
I am looking for someone with professional knowledge, someone who’s judgement I trust as well as someone I can relate to. Whilst experience is an asset, it isn’t necessarily my primary criteria.
Here are two brief samples of my writing.
An extract from ‘Harry Kane’
A swallow flies in a westerly direction.
Its movements, swooping up and down as if on an unseen roller coaster. It darts from side to side to catch the midsummer insects on the wing. Down Thurlow Road it goes, no let up in pace, it seems to careen faster and faster, and then at the end it instantly tilts its wings and climbs quickly up and up and up, the air streaming around its small tight body. It crosses the hedge at the end of the road and is gone from sight.
As it crossed the hedge, it would have had the opportunity to look down and see the cap of an old stone cross below it. The stone cross that it passed is the memorial cross commemorating the sacrifice of the fallen in war, Throbbing Morton’s finest, their lives cut short before their time
An extract from ‘Little Pup’
‘Come in ! Come in!’ called the greeting voice
The lounge was large and was filled with dark wooden furniture, large drapes, paintings and books. A subdued room, the heavy draping curtains were almost drawn, a shaft of bright sunlight , like a stage light, broke through behind Carnita and lit her up as she moved to see who was there. Today, she was dressed in a gecko green flouncy trouser suit, with a silk scarf around her neck and sandals that would surely have graced a Monaco or Cannes beach. Apart from the odd rogue toe and wrinkled hand, Carnita was a youthful looking person whose youthful spirit came from within.
‘Beautiful Boy, how lovely to see you!’ – she said to the Vicar.
‘Carnita!’ – Tim responded in kind with a flourish.
‘Ohh! And who is this handsome young lady?’
‘This is Annabelle, my daughter’.

Hi Neville - it needs editing as well as proofreading and so a (far) larger budget - would you consider this?
-
Any budget flexibility? That's not expert rates.
