Sales Engineer
Sales Department
Reporting to:
Reports : Sales Director
Job Context
To work closely with the sales director and sales coordinator and to be responsible for
sales and business development of the Company’s AQM and CEM products/systems and
service contracts within an assigned territory.
Customer targets include Local Authority’s; waste incinerators; power plants; industrial
process operators etc.
Role Responsibilities
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be
assigned.
Compile list of prospective customers for use as sales leads. Follow up sales leads
obtained from other sources including field based installation and services
engineers, website enquiries, marketing campaigns, exhibitions and incoming
sales calls etc.
Travel throughout assigned territory (further afield on occasion) to call on existing
and prospective customers. A minimum of 3-4 sales visits per day is considered
normal with 1 day per week for territory planning and diary management for
planned visits.
Liaise with customers by telephone providing advice on products where necessary.
Record all sales activity, prospects and forecasts using Goldmine/Frontrange CRM
software. Presents sales forecasts at monthly sales meetings.
Make recommendations to customers on suitable methods and equipment from
the Company’s recognised and accepted product range.
Undertake pre-tender design reviews and post order handovers with the Projects
Department and other relevant employees to ensure technical competence and
cost-effectiveness within the quotation.
Draft quotations and tender responses, and prepare such documents for issue to
prospective customers taking responsibility for the technical and cost accuracy.
Follow up quotations and tender responses.
Manage Company stand at exhibitions as required.
Monitor the activity of competitors and adjust strategy to suit. Investigate potential
market places and develop/extend customer base for new and existing products.
Prepare reports of business transactions and keep expense account.
Visit existing and lapsed service contract customers. All contracted customers to
be visited in line with sales department communications objectives.
Encourage customers who have switched suppliers to return to the Company;
ensure that current and previous customers are kept informed of new product
developments.
Produce weekly timesheets.
Any other duties as required by the Sales Director/Managing Director.
Skills Required
Education and Experience
Technical Sales experience
Proven sales track record.
Educated to HNC standard within a technical/scientific discipline.
Good command of written and spoken English
Proficient in the use of MS Office
Pleasant, efficient and convincing telephone manner.
Negotiation skills.
Ability to work within a team.
Language Skills
Acceptable command of written/spoken English.
Pleasant and efficient telephone manner.
Other
Applicant must be in possession of a clean driving licence as the role requires
significant amounts of travel.
Personal Attributes
Initiative To be able to use own discretion and make decisions when
