Description
Experience Level: Expert
We are a translation and editing company based in India that caters to the Japanese market. Our member brand Ulatus is well-recognized in Japan as a leading provider of translation services.
We deal primarily with academic as well as business/general translations from Japanese to English (and vice versa), and seek skilled Translation Checkers to work for Edisense, our Translation and Editing Division.
This is a full-time or part-time/contract position (as per your choice) on a Working from Home/Home Office basis:
- For full-time translation checkers, a monthly compensation package will be offered
- For part time or contractual translation checkers, a per-character or per-word rate can be suitably negotiated
The compensation arrangement is negotiable; please do not hesitate to contact us about this.
You are required to have high-speed internet connectivity and be fully available via phone and email during working hours. As this is a freelance position, we will consider applications from anywhere in the world.
Requirements for the role of Translation Checker:
- Native Japanese language skills
- Near-native/fluent English language skills
- Fully bilingual or bicultural applicants will be preferred
- Well-read, knowledgeable and academically oriented
- Technically proficient (should be able to do effective online research, especially for terminology). Should be familiar with commonly used translation and terminology databases.
- Experience in translation or translation-checking will be preferred
Responsibilities will include:
- Translation-checking all Japanese to English and English to Japanese assignments
- Evaluation of new translators and periodic assessment of existing translators (Quality Management)
- Giving appropriate feedback to translators to promote learning and improve performance
- Preparation of guidelines for translators
- General translation work
PLEASE NOTE - Translation checking is also known as Translation Proofreading or Translation QA. We welcome all applicants.
If you are interested, please apply with your CV and a Cover Letter detailing:
1. Why the position interests you
2. Your level of proficiency in English and Japanese
3. Your suitability for the role
Applicants will be required to take a short test (JP-EN and EN-JP) to assess their checking skills, and a telephonic interview with a Japanese native will be conducted to assess their language skills.
