Experience Level: Intermediate
The UK Government's Department for International Development (DFID) is looking for an experienced web writing and editing specialist to rewrite existing intranet content (maximum 50 day contract).
The role consists of:
- Rewriting specified intranet content in a more ‘task-based’ manner
- Creating new sections of the intranet with a consistent look and feel and common language (e.g. for headings, links, related material)
- Publishing content on SharePoint 2010, adding suitable metadata
- Producing an intranet house-style guide and best practice guidance, implementing it and handing it over to DFID staff
- Developing strong working relationships with the intranet project team
- Transferring editorial skills to DFID staff.
The contractor must have:
- Proven and demonstrable skills in writing user-friendly website content
- Previous experience of writing and editing intranet content
- Experience of website usability techniques and website accessibility
- Experience of publishing in a web content management system
- Strong interpersonal skills, especially communication skills
- The ability to prioritise work to meet tight deadlines
- Experience of working in the UK public sector, ideally for a major government department.
The contract will be for a period of a maximum of 50 days (depending on start date), completing on 31 May 2012.
The contractor should be available to work on the project for a minimum of four days a week (every week). They will be required to work in our offices in either London or East Kilbride but agreement could be reached on a process to do some of the work outside DFID.
