I was a second year Social Work Student on a BS (Hons) social work programme at University with only one year left to go before qualifying. On January 18th, the practice element of the course, which is 80 days assessed practice in a social work setting, was terminated and failed by a practice assessor; I only had a few weeks left before the end. The practice assessor stated in her report the reasons for failing me (attachment); I later appealed against the decision by responding to her report (attachment with above) which was then overseen by the Practice Assessment Panel. Unfortunately, the Practice Assessment Panel upheld the fail. The programme handbook states a student who fails a module twice will have his/her training revoked. The university kindly stated that I must leave the programme even though my academic grades were suburb. Being a social worker is what I have wanted to do since a child, it took me so long to get on the programme I just do not want my dream job to end here. I now have the opportunity to appeal the university independent panel, meaning that, if the appeal is successful I will be allowed back on the programme on the condition I take the second year over again. Can somebody write me an appeal letter? I had a Needs Assessment carried out in university (I have a copy of the report) due to my anxiety disorder. Student Services supplied me with a one-on-one tutor, a lap top and extra time for exams which was great I was thriving. Under the Disability and Discrimination Act reasonable adjustments were never transferred to the placement, nor was the technology supplied by the university compatible with the placement systems. This heightened my anxiety. Due to the software not being compatible I took a long time to document clients assessments in an appropriate manner/time which then heightened my anxiety.
