Description
Experience Level: Expert
We are looking for an innovative part time freelance journalist to work with a team developing and growing Block49's very local social networking websites centred at present around high-rise prestigious developments in the Docklands, London E14.
We need someone who:
1. can suggest ideas to the management team for local stories that will drive discussion on the website by researching trending topics, contacting local residents and organisations
2. present and compare those ideas whether in person or via email to the management team
3. research and follow through with the chosen ideas, writing up clean copy to be uploaded onto the site. In some cases your articles will be sent directly by email to our websites' users
4. to track, evaluate and monitor the success of the stories in terms of promoting discussion amongst the websites' members and to utililise the results of that evaluation to suggest new ideas
5. can build and maintain a network of contacts (local politicians, police, local service providers, local businesses, local residents) required for local stories.
6. has a portfolio of work (articles etc) which will demonstrate journalistic and reporting capability
7. ideally lives locally to the Docklands
8. is a self-starter and motivated to produce excellent results within an agreed time frame
9. has a nose for news stories that will fire up local interest
You will be working from home, setting your own working hours but working to deadlines agreed with the rest of the team. Work related expenses will be covered.
This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to gain some experience of working for a commercial organisation and to demonstrate their reporting talent. For this position we are expecting that you will
• send a one page email listing 5 story ideas every week with rationale based upon trending topics and analysis of uptake of other stories by users
• assess with the team for up to 30 minutes the story to be chosen for the next week
• submit one clean copy new story (approx 250 words) for publication every week.
You will be paid a fixed amount (£10) for each story submitted. Consequently you would earn £520 for a year's worth of articles. We require the freelance journalist to start work as soon as possible.
Please specifically answer the following questions in your bid:
1. Do you understand the tasks involved ?
2. Do you have any published stories that you can send (if so please attach any examples)
3. Can you work in the UK or do you have the correct visas ?
4. Do you live locally to the Docklands ?
5. Why you wish to apply for this role ?
6. Are you available to start immediately ?
