Description
I am seeking an experienced editor and co-writer for a scientific book to be submitted to MIT Press on the safe implementation of AI in healthcare. The book is grounded in original primary research — 59 in-depth interviews — and is expected to reach approximately 80,000 words. I am currently in the drafting phase and anticipate completing the draft within 4 months.
This is a serious academic publishing project. I am not looking for blog writers, content marketers, or fiction editors.
Your Role
The editor/co-writer will be responsible for three core tasks:
1. Interview-to-prose conversion – Transform structured interview content into coherent, academically rigorous narrative prose
2. Literature integration – Incorporate key findings from relevant scientific studies (provided by the author) into the manuscript in a manner consistent with academic publishing standards
3. Editorial review – Review and strengthen grammar, clarity, and the integrity of the core argument throughout
What I Need From You
To be considered, please respond with ALL of the following:
• Relevant experience – Specific examples of academic books drafted or co-written, and/or peer-reviewed journal articles authored or edited (title, publisher/journal, year)
• Sample work – A short writing sample (500–1,000 words) from a scientific or academic publication you contributed to
• Example of your editing – A brief before/after editing example demonstrating how you improve academic prose
• Quote per word count – Your rate per 1,000 words
• Total project cost – Your all-in quote for the full 80,000-word manuscript
Applications without all five elements above will not receive a response.

How are you planning to turn the 59 interviews into a clear, unified argument across the book, are you organising them around key themes, case studies, or a central framework?
-

Have you already defined the book’s chapter structure and central argument, or would you like support in shaping the overall narrative framework from the interview data?

Hello Lara,Have you already defined the book’s chapter structure and central argument, or would you like support in shaping the overall narrative framework from the interview data?are you targeting a strictly academic tone for MIT Press submission, or a hybrid style that balances academic rigor with broader readability? And also,do you prefer iterative chapter reviews or full-manuscript editing?
