Description
I'm an experienced indie writer with a decent catalogue. I've got a new book in the pipeline, the second in a series of crime novels set in 1990s Manchester, the first of which was published by a small press. I want to go back to the indie route for book 2, so I need both a proofreader and a light-touch editor to clean up the writing 'tics', bad habits, extraneous word removal etc.
You can find my books on Amazon to get a flavour of what my writing is like
EDIT
Please take the budget as a placeholder! The price is negotiable for the right person/skill set PPH's system made me put something in the budget box and their suggestion was ridiculously low. I'm not a megabucks author, royalties made by an indie are not great, but I'm also not out to exploit a freelancer.

Hi Malcolm, can you please contact with me for further details. I think we can negotiate in a fair price for both of us. I am eager to work on this project.

Hi Malcolm,
Can I ask you, as an ‘experienced indie writer’, why you think it’s ok to ask an 'expert editor' to edit a 60,000-word book for the miserly sum of £250? Particularly when People Per Hour will take a hefty percentage of that. An expert editor deserves at least £600 for this work.Malcolm H.17 Feb 2023That's a fair comment but is a result of PPH algorithms. I've not used copy-editing services through PPH before and was taken aback when it suggested £88! That looked ridiculous so I put in £250 as a placeholder. I meant to alter the proposal to say that the price was negotiable but...
I hope you feel less insulted now! Your price was about what I expected. -

What's your realistic budget?
Malcolm H.17 Feb 2023It's hard to be exact as I'd characterise the job as proofreading plus, if you know what I mean. Things like the structure, dialogue, characters etc don't need work as I'm not an early career writer but the prose needs a trim/tighten. My feeling was £3-400 for the right person.
Anna P.17 Feb 2023Professional expert rates start at £25 per 1000 words, so you may want to rethink your budget.
