TASK 1 Scenario
You are recently been appointed as a trainee Human Resource Manager at !!!!! Hotel, which is opening a 100 room full service hotel in West End in London. The hotel will have a coffee shop and a bar for its internal and external guests The General Manager had requested you to provide a proposed recruitment planning portfolio documents explaining the processes and procedures that will be involved in people management in the organization.
The report should include the following:-
• The human resource planning and possible benefit of the same
• The role and purpose of HRM department in your hotel
• How the general employment environment will effect affects workforce planning in your hotel (think about supply and demand of the hospitality job opportunities)
TASK 2
The organization’s employee relations are based on the concept of family relationships. This is good, but not appropriate in an organization context as this tends to cause conflict, especially when new people are recruited they find it hard to fit in and often feel alienated.
You are required to write a report on employment relations and legislation within the employment relationship in !!!!!! Hotel context.
Key words: Contractual regulations, two recognised employment practices, constraints imposed by legislation on termination and main features of current employment legislation
This report should include the following:-
• Start by assessing the current state of employment relations in hospitality industry. Think of a role of unionization, collective bargaining, consultation and employee participation
• The importance of grievance procedures and disciplinary procedures
• How the employment legislation such Employment Relations Act, contracts of employment, dismissal, maternity and paternity rights etc. influence in managing human resources
TASK 3
You have been really working hard since your appointment with !!!!!! Hotels, and now your General Manager has asked you to prepare the comprehensive job descriptions and personal specifications of the list of staff that you submitted through your proposed HRP. And also your general manager has asked you to prepare the comparison of the various different selection techniques used by the other organizations in the same industry and proposed at least two most effective techniques that fits into your recruitment and selection process.
This report should include the following:-
• Write down the Job description and personal specification for a selected job for instance, hotel receptionist, banquette manager, waiter or cleaning staff etc. (choose at least two)
• Compare various different selection techniques that can best suits to !!!!!! Hotel
TASK 4
Once again your work is appraised very much by the senior member of the hotel team and specially General Manager. Hence you have been given further responsibilities to work on the last part of the portfolio which is managing and developing human resources. You are aware that this will include employing motivation theories, training needs and appraisal systems to be used in !!!!!! Hotel.
Your job is to analyse various motivation theories and recommend one or a combination of them in !!!!!!! Hotel. You need to explain and stress the importance of using them in the hotel. You also need to make recommendation on types of training hotel will be providing to its employee and suggest an appraisal system for the staff who will be working for hotel and justify your selection.
You also need to make a Power point presentation and present that to the senior member of the hotel emphasising the need, importance and techniques which will be used for motivating staff in the !!!!!! hotel.
This part should include the following:-
• Different types of training
• Difference between training and development
• Benefits and effectiveness of training
• The role and need of training
