Description
Experience Level: Expert
I’m after a self-contained short story in the mystery genre that grabs the reader from the opening line and never lets up. The tone must stay thrilling and fast-paced throughout, with tension driven by atmosphere, sharp dialogue, and escalating stakes rather than graphic content.
Once we start I can supply any extra setting or character notes, yet I’m also happy for you to bring your own creative spark as long as the finished piece:
• stands alone as a complete mystery (about 2,000–5,000 words, or whatever length you feel best serves the twist)
• follows a clear investigative arc with red herrings and a satisfying, logical resolution
• arrives fully proofread in an editable Word or Google Doc
If you have samples of other brisk, high-stakes mysteries you’ve written, please include them so I can get a feel for your style. I’m excited to see how you’ll keep me guessing right up to the final page.

can you please tell if you prefer a modern-day mystery or a classic/period setting for the short story?
