THE JOB
We are a travel start-up looking to produce unique travel city guides.
The aim of these guides is to provide insightful information on each city, to help travellers identify key landmarks, activities, or venues. Each topic will need to be researched thoroughly to ensure the content is unique as we are not looking to simply replicate the Top 10 things ranked on TripAdvisor for each category.
GUIDE STRUCTURE
The 7 core topics each guide will focus on are: example used - Porto (Portugal)
1. Food: Great restaurants with a focus on 'local food'. This section ideally focuses on a specific meal (breakfast / brunch, lunch / dinner). Looking for 7 options (with one restaurants being the main feature and requiring additional content). For a city like Porto, this could be a focus on seafood, chorizo based dishes, etc
2. Unique Activities: Unique activities that only this city offers. Looking for 7 options (with one activity being the main feature and requiring additional content). For a city like Porto, unique activities could include the a Tour of the Port Wine caves, a visit of the Livraria Lelloa (library), a ride on the Douro river to visit the Port Wine Houses, etc. Equally, this section could be a feature on the best 8 beaches in and around Porto.
3. Main Cultural Sights: Looking for 7 options (with one landmark being the main feature and requiring additional content). For a city like Porto, cultural sights could include the Dom Luís Bridge; Porto Cathedral; Jardins do Palácio de Cristal; Rail Station Sao Bento etc)
4. Thrill Seekers: Activities for those seeking more of a thrill (boat rides, bungee jumping, abseiling etc). Looking for 7 options (with one feature). For Porto, this could be Porto Bridge Climb, etc
5. Tours of the City: Best free tours of the city. Looking for 3 options with more detailed content.
6. Parting: Great places to go out / party (bars, nightclubs etc). Looking for 7 options (with one feature).
7. For the Gram: The best spots to take photos to make your Instagram feed look amazing. For Porto this could be the Yeatman Hotel; Miradouro da Vitoria; Don Luis Bridge; Serra do Pilar Viewpoint etc). Looking for 7 options with one feature.
FILES AND FORMATS
Attached are a draft PDF version of a city guide (content not finalised, but this will give you an idea of the layout and content we're after), as well as a WORD document that will be used to fill out the content (the document you will need to produce).
Each guide will contain approximately 1,300-1,500 words, most of which will simply be listings of places or activities.
We would need you to be creative in terms of writing - as you can see from the Berlin draft, as we want to provide our audience of millennials with a unique tone of voice.
CITIES TO COVER
We are looking to cover most European cities so this will be a long term engagement for however wins the project. The first 5 cities we will cover however are Berlin (Germany), Amsterdam (Netherlands), Prague (Czech Republic), Barcelona (Spain) and Porto (Portugal).
OUR TARGET AUDIENCE / TONE OF VOICE
We are looking to target millennials (23-35 years old) and therefore need to tone of voice and content to be quirky and incredibly engaging.
ABOUT YOU
We are looking for someone with excellent writing and editing skills (for digital), experience in writing both short and long form content and ideally someone with previous experience in writing for the travel sector.

The quote you should submit is for the production of 1 city guide. We will select 5 candidates and assign 1 city guide to each. Once these have been produced, we will then select the best 2 candidates to produce the remaining 100 or so guides.

Gregory, as opposed to big European cities and mere searching for details online for writing up what's needed, what I can offer you is: guides for cities, towns but also other places of interest in my country of residence (see profile) as a start, through personal research even by asking locals at the place of interest (which is far more genuine), plus visiting some of the places. Then with low-cost air tickets (cost on my part), visiting other countries and doing the same. If interested, drop me a line back.
