Overview of how UK transport system assists disabled people

My work colleague is preparing for a scholarship programme by submitting a report comparing how the transport systems in Malaysia and UK assist or don't disabled people to travel around.
There is very little support in Malaysia and although some legislation in place little is done to implement the rules - buses are not low floor, pavements are few and far between etc.
Ideally seeking report of how uk has moved forward in this area - what has been done/achieved etc.
