Description
Experience Level: Entry
Estimated project duration: Ongoing
Talented and experienced writer needed for a consumer website to cover topical news stories and events.
Topics to cover will involve energy, personal finances, broadband, mobile. Writing will be for the consumer as the audience, so the article should focus on what the every person needs to know. We also use a pyramid structure, with the most important information at the top, and then expanding down to cover additional information in more depth.
Deadlines are important as news needs to be written and published as it happens, i.e. within the hour of the press release going out for example. This is only Monday to Friday during office hours however, and there is flexibility to just cover particular days. News is usually released in the morning around 9-10am.
News articles are 600 words approximately and paid at a rate of £30 per article. These usually take me 1 hour to complete. Up to 2 hours would be an absolute maximum for a very complex piece, which will be rare if ever as I'll typically outsource the more straightforward ones.
Multiple sources are a must, as is original writing and no plagiarism. I.e. you need to add something to the story, a new angle, extra information, additional sources, to make your article unique and offer extra value. Quotes can be used, but use of long quotes to fill up word count is not acceptable.
Please approach this work as reporting and journalism, and not simply writing up press releases, as again the latter would not be strong enough.
Work will be regular and reliable for the right person, with a set schedule per week possible. Additional writing work also available for the right person if that's wanted, but is not a requirement.
UK based applicants only, and UK native speakers only please. A background in research and analytical writing would be ideal, but not a requirement.

As you'll be expecting us to be available between 9am and 10am in case a press release comes in, will you be prepared to pay a retainer to cover us if there's no news to report on or is your budget a fixed price per article with no pay if there's no work on a particular day?

You've listed this as entry level but then say you're looking for an experienced writer. The rate is very much entry level, so can you please clarify?
