Description
Experience Level: Expert
We're looking for content for an eBook (4,000 words) we intend to produce prior to the launch of Google Shopping in Ireland later this year. The target audience is ecommerce business owners and marketers who will use it as an introduction, guide and resource in terms of finding out how to get set up with Google Shopping.
Suggested outline
1. Introduction to Google Shopping
What it is, why you should use it, and key stats on Google Shopping from countries that it is already in (particular reference to UK stats here please). There’s no need to delve too much into the history of Google Shopping. Any stats should be from 2015 where possible.
You should also touch on the potential size / opportunity offered by the ecommerce market in Ireland, again only where stats allow.
2. Requirements for Google Shopping
EBook assumes that the audience will have an e-commerce website and therefore a product feed of some description. Reference to both of these pre-requisites should be made, but only briefly at the start of this section.
Main point to communicate here is how to set up a Google Merchant Center account and make your feed compatible with Google’s requirements. Brief detail should be given to what a Merchant Center account is.
This .pdf provides a great breakdown on the individual feed components needed to comply with Google Merchant Center, we should use the table provided here, or a variant thereof (without the “tips”) as this information comes direct from the main Google source on data feed compliance: https://appcenter.bronto.com/uploads/GoogleShopping_CheatSheet.pdf
2. Setting Up Shopping Campaigns
Here the focus shifts to Shopping Campaigns in Google AdWords rather than Merchant Center activities. The first point to cover here is how to link your AdWords and Merchant Center accounts. Again, the eBook will assume the audience knows and has used AdWords at some point.
The main points to communicate will be how to set up and structure your very first Shopping campaign in Google AdWords once you have linked your two accounts. This should only focus on the basics, as advanced features will be covered in optimisation (below)

3. Optimisation
This is to be split into A – Optimisation of Feed and B – Optimisation of Shopping Campaigns
a. Optimisation of Feed
You will need to emphasise the point about total compliance with Google’s data feed and product guidelines, even the smallest typos/errors in the feed can lead to problems with it being accepted by the Merchant Center.
Some good info on common errors and how to avoid them here: https://services.google.com/fh/files/misc/shoppingbestpractices.pdf
b. Optimisation of Shopping Campaigns
This section should focus on the things you can do within AdWords to help optimise your Shopping campaigns once they have been running for at least a month
Key here is to focus on bidding strategy and hierarchies. You can use custom labels to further categorise items on your feed. We would recommend using custom labels to segment the feed by margins on products as an example

4. Advanced Features
Highlight some of the advanced features in the “Expansion” section of this .pdf: http://www.cpcstrategy.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/google-shopping-2015-edition.pdf
Focus would be on special offer, seller ratings, product reviews and Google trusted stores.
5. Conclusion
Wrapping it all up and inviting folks to get in touch with us as we are a Premier Google Partner with Shopping certification.
