    And on top of that 1000 words. All this for $10. Are you really serious? Would you do it yourself?

    You do have to bear in mind that PPH takes up to a quarter of what we earn inc VAT (depending on what fee structure we're on) - so we would not even be getting $20!

    Hi Isabelle - put it this way. How long do you think it takes to write a really good 1,000-word article, one that is informative and engaging? It could be two to four hours or more for an excellent, meticulous writer. Then ask yourself - is $10-12 a fair rate for two to four hours for any professional? Or, is it the kind of money that even a newspaper delivery boy or girl would turn down?

    There is something else as well, Isabelle. The promise of further work down the line does not mean that much to writers. This is because all of us have been bitten by these claims. We have delivered brilliant work and the client then disappears of the face of the Earth. I am not saying this could be you, but it is one reason why writers are suspicious of such claims.
    I understand that you are nervous when hiring new talent. You do not know the writer from Adam, and it takes time to build trust. However, you can minimise risk by studying reviews of those who apply to you, to ensure you get the best. I have found that many buyers who are not prepared to or cannot pay a reasonable/fair rate receive low quality bids and either end up publishing poor work or get someone else to do it, which is a false economy.

    Well, offensive is a hard word in this context. It's not exactly as if i am forcing you to apply, right? On the other hand i could as well find it offensive that you expect me to pay more then that for work from writers that i have no previous experience with. If you are not willing to take a chance with me for this rate, why should i take a chance with you?

    No, my budget is not set in stone. But the purpose of this job posting is to get to know people through one completed testwork. The ones that i can imagine working regularly with, can certainly expect a higher payout over time.

    What I'm trying to get at is that will the higher payout of minimum £20 per 1000 words come after this first poorly paid task? Or will it be weeks of working for $1 per 100 words? You can generally gauge a good writer by the quality of their portfolio and don't really have to start with such a low rate. You've prefunded this task to the tune of $20, so maybe just ask for a 500 word piece initially, that's an okay rate.
