WEBSITE BRIEF
1. Introduction
Marketplace allowing individual sellers to find
an avenue in which to advertise and sell their merchandise.
2. Requirements
a) Design
We would like the website to have a professional and modern look. We do not
want it to be overly trendy or heavily classic and boring, but something middle of
the road, which will appeal to our wide range of customers. It needs to be easy to
navigate, in order to guarantee visitors a pleasurable shopping experience, as well
as offering a mix of relevant information and entertainment.
We have selected the following examples to help guide you:
Net-a-Porter.com/Mr. Porter.com for its modern look, classic layout, easy
to read text, font and white background.
Gilt.com/Etsy for their simplicity, the ergonomics in their category
column, the header, the head bar and footer. The purity and symmetry of
the layout on their products pages is really easy to read, almost like a
product page in a design magazine. It is minimalist, sharp, but still young,
fresh and eye catching.
In order to meet our specific design requirements and to avoid
misunderstanding, we will provide a mock up for each opening page and initial
product page. These mock-ups are to be reviewed in detail between us before any
actual design takes place.
b) Sections
Most of the pages, for example the individual shop page, should be dynamic and
possibly have some small multi-media content to show the product at its best.
The shop owner should be able to feature their work with video footage.
Each opening section should include sliders, pics or/and texts to visually
illustrate the content of that section. Also, each opening section should include
Ad banners (an average of 3). Smaller sliders (usually pre-footer, but on occasion
can be found within the header) feature affiliates, new shops, new products, or
simply shops and products.
The main site is likely to have 11 sections though we would not wish to restrict
content to our initial ideas and would welcome further input.
The following sections should be listed in the footer of the website:
Company:
About Us
Careers
Affiliates
Open a shop
Ads
FAQ
Products directory
Shops directory

Contact Us
Returns & Exchanges
Shipping information

c) Maintenance
Long-term maintenance is required.
We will need to select areas of the website we can maintain ourselves, and those
we would prefer you to handle.
d) Timescale of the project
Our aim is to launch end of October.
3. Supporting Material
a) Design
Design mock-ups are attached to this brief to help you understand the direction
we are aiming for. These are to be used as a guide when creating design layouts.
b) Corporate Identity Details
In terms of visual identity, Net-a-Porter.com reflects what we want. The font is
exactly what we are looking for, including the color and size.
We require recommended choices of typeface and a type based logo.
c) Examples of Sites we Like and Dislike
Like: Net-a-Porter/Mr. Porter/Gilt/Etsy/Mungo&Maud.com
Dislike: Pet-supermarket.co.uk/Ebay/Zooplus.co.uk
4. Deliverables
Please consider including the following deliverables in your proposal:
Website design and build
Design revision and amendments for each page
Basic identity including a text based logo and choice of typefaces
Documentation on website maintenance for ourselves and people we
employ
Basic documentation for our users
Built using WORDPRESS MULTISITE NETWORK, WPMU DEV theme and WPMU DEV plugins
5. Next Steps
We appreciate your feedback as soon as possible regarding this project based on
this brief.
Specifically we would like to know:
1. If there are any details you require which have not been included in this brief
2. If you can complete the website in time for a mid-October launch
3. The areas of maintenance you recommend we manage and those managed by
yourself
4. If you can provide us with a breakdown of costs in order to help us set up a
suitable agreement
At a later date we aim to introduce a newsletter, which will be sent out to both
shop owners and customers. At an appropriate time we may seek your
recommendations on this.
