Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
General information for the website: Template based Wordpress website (using StartIT by Select Themes)
Kind of development: Customization of existing website
Num. of web pages/modules: 1
Description of every page/module: We need a solution developed where we can automatically assign a header to groups of pages based on their position within the overall structure (e.g. their assigned Parent Pages).
Description of requirements/features: - The top level pages of the website will all have manually specified header images/videos.
- We can specify a generic top level header image for the 3 main service categories (Parent Pages)
This generic header will then be applied to all pages that are assigned under that parent page (not the Parent pages themselves though).
This generic header will be applied to all existing pages, but also applied to any new pages which are then assigned to one of the 3 service parent pages.
The generic header will not be restricted to any depth level within the hierarchy. For example, if the new page is assigned as a sub-sub child page (Services > Service Page > Child Page > Child Page > New Page) then this would still use the generic header defined for the ‘Service’ category.
- The generic header will be applied by default if the page falls under the 3 service pages. If a custom header is to be applied to an individual page within this hierarchy then this page will need to be ‘opted-out’ of the generic header settings (likely a tick box within the Page Attributes settings) before the unique header is applied.
- If a page is re-assigned under a parent page of Translation, Interpreting or Localisation then any pre-existing header is overwritten by the generic header (unless that page has specifically ‘opted-out’ of the generic header settings).
It is likely we will need a new page added to the Wordpress backend to allow us to specify the header image for each of the 3 sections, this will also allow us to update/switch out images in the future.
As we are using a template theme the header configuration is split into two sections, available under ‘Select Title’ and ‘Select Header’ - we have created a demo page which you can use as an example.
Specific technologies required: PHP Development
Extra notes:
