Description
Experience Level: Expert
Estimated project duration: 1 day or less
General information for the website: Website about the International Women's Association of Prague (IWAP) - non-profit organization
Description of requirements/features: The problem I am experiencing is when I am doing updates on the site every once in a while a 503 error appears. See attachment. The entire website home page and all sub-level pages crash and show the same error. The site is down for less than a minute and then it comes back up. I've contacted the hosting provider SiteGround and here is the problem they said:
--------------------------
Your Cloud Server gets overloaded because of too many IOPs which actually are read and write requests.
Code:
date container cpu io_ops_read io_ops_write procs

The user that generates most IOPs is iwapragu.
Unfortunately, upgrading your Cloud Server's CPU cores and/or RAM won't resolve the issue.
In this case you should contact your websites' developers or with a WordPress specialist to optimize your website to use less IOPs.
--------------------------
I am the administrator of the website and fixing this is beyond my expertise. I am more a web designer so need a technical WordPress specialist.
In addition, the hosting provider said:
--------------------------
I would suggest to start from updating the current plugins that are present on the website:
Code:
wp coreakismet active-network available 4.0
display-widgets active-network available 2.05
ninja-forms active available 3.2.3
revslider active-network available 5.4.6.2
then to ask the developer to check the website traffic and the database optimization.
As I checked the semrush bot is accessing your installations a lot and you can block it if you wish:
https://www.semrush.com/bot/
using the robots.txt file:
https://www.siteground.com/kb/how_to_use_the_robotstxt_file/
Once the plugins are up to date and the database is optimized, you can monitor the website for a few days, to check if the issue is resolved.
The I/O operations are the data that is being written and read on the server
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Input/output
Each visit, database operation, action of the visitor or internal process on the website caused I/O and once a developer checks the database, the traffic of the website and optimize it, the I/O should lower.
According to the website configuration, the developer can check how to optimize the internal configuration(PHP version, Cron jobs, plugins) and checking the traffic can help finding what the visitors are doing and how to optimize the website functionality.
--------------------------
Now I can handle updating all the plugins but fixing the IOPs, optimizing the website & the database, and checking website traffic is what I need help with. I've attached the entire conversation of the support ticket with Siteground for your reference and the error that is being displayed.
Extra services needed: Optimization
